There's no reason an able-bodied man, homeless or not, should expect one nickel from the public purse. Government money should go to old people, disabled people, widows & orphans, and mothers of small children. (And no, I don't consider drug or alchohol abuse a disability.)

Good. I'm glad to see it. These people are agressive and violent and San Francisco is a haven for them.

A couple of years ago, a friend of mine and I were lunching at a sidewalk cafe when one of those fiends attacked her. As it turns out, he was a known quantity, and we saw him the next day sleeping on a bench on Union Square.

San Francisco has been out of control for too long. Its high time this they did something about it.

Liberals don't understand supply and demand for obvious reasons, I cannot fathom why they don't see that their enabling policies and programs end up with dire consequences for everyone, including those they want to help.

City officials have already started to puzzle out how to redirect the estimated $13 million saved from cutting the cash grants to rent out hotel rooms and expand free food programs

They are only redirecting the consequences with a different form of coddling. The mental hospitals might be the best place to send some of the vagrants, along with some of the money.

In the 1980s, cuts to California's mental hospitals led to a rise in the city's street population.

Revisionist history alert:
The mental hospitals were depopulated in 1967 by the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act. In its own words, that law was meant "To end the inappropriate, indefinite, and involuntary commitment of mentally disordered persons, developmentally disabled persons and persons impaired by chronic alcoholism.."

It had nothing to do with "cuts." It was another liberal do-good scheme to "free" people who were in many cases delusional and totally incapable of surviving on their own. The law has turned many downtown environments into giant, outdoor, insane asylums.

$110 Million divided by 2,800 = $40,000 a piece. The average recipient was recieving $375 per month....$4,500 a total of $12.6 million. That means $97.4 Million was being used to administer the hand out!Talk about Poverty Pimps.
