Having recently gone to see Harry Potters' latest escapades (it's ok... not being Christian, the supposed "references to witchcraft" do not offend me), I was surprised to find myself highly offended by the trailer for Adam Sandler's latest miscarriage, "8 Crazy nights". I grew up on Rudolph, Charlie Brown, and all the classics... and was stunned to see such a crude and warped worldview as was displayed by this trailer. I think I realised (at the tender age of 35) that I am an "old man now", as I actually felt bad for the kids sitting near me who didn't understand why and how what was being shown on the screen was trash culture at its worst. Is Hollyweird trying to push an agenda here, or merely out of touch beyond all (low) expectations? 3, 2, 1, Discuss!

get a sense of humor will ya? You sound like a pretty boring & sad guy if your so bent out of shape of a Adam Sandler movie. What were you expecting?
If you were really upset why didnt you go ask the theatre manager why a pg-13 movie was being previewed during Harry Potter...unless Potter is PG-13 as well..I dunno

Adam Sandler He's hopeless; as is the majority of US movie industry's output.

Oh, I gots a Wicked sense of humor... what surprised me is the nastiness present in the trailer. As I said, maybe I'm getting old : ) nut I'm rarely "upset" enough to complain, like most of the sensible folks in the red states... more just dismayed at where culture is heading these days.... don't you ever feel a sense of loss when cultural icons are pureed for cash? I do, I guess. I'm sure folks will vote withe their dollars in any case.

I'm with you, bro. The trailer looked awful, even by the relaxed standards of cartoon holiday fare. My 5-year old is not seeing this film. A good story about Hannukah is fine by me (a non-Jew), but this cannot be it.

well, the capper for me was when the Menorah is knocked over into the Santa.. since when is a Santa a representation of the Christian religion? Clearly it was ment to be in the context of the scene... and even I (a Wiccan) know Santa is cool and all, but _not_ the "reason for the season". Maybe they just muddled it all together and hoped for the best, but jeeze! : P

Don't see it then.

Of course I won't see it - but my ~question~ was on the decay of culture... did you have anything to add to that, pro or con?
To: Holofernes
I understand your concern. The fact is that little kids will go out and see this and be exposed to the sick and twisted culture that Hollywood wants to depict as inherantly American. The issue here is that many of our cultural traits are for a fact picked up via such media. The more base and unrefined the worse the impact on a young impressionable mind. The next issue is that the parents who permit their children to see this may be as bad as the kids.
Still chances are that such parents will be Democrats anyway. I think we've come to far for conservative thinking parents to trust the minds of their children to the Hollywood crowd without giving the subject matter a "once over".
Adam Sandler's a hoot when he's not cussing like a sailor.
BTW - Saw Harry Potter myself. I thought it was well done. Impressive effects and as true to the book as you can get in 2 hours. I'd recommend it. FOR HEATHENS! (just kidding It was really good. I had tickets well in advance at our Premiere Theatre.) Can't wait for LOTR in December.

I haven't even seen it, but if some ad for a show arouses my ire, I take my viewing business elsewhere. The culture has been decaying from political correctness for more than three decades. The aformentioned film is a symptom, not the illness itself.

Wonderful Hanukah movie.

You're a "Wiccan" and you complain about "the decay of culture"? Look in the mirror. Aside from a few ritual beheadings and blood orgies, I can't think of anything this mindless cult has contributed to "culture."

How about that new Cuba Gooding movie about being "stranded" on an all-gay cruise? It looks pathetic.
I found other things in the theater to show my daughters. And this trailer was rated PG, I think.

I love it when 35 year olds describe themselves as old.
What you are is not completely green and wet. The curing process has just begun. Adulthood (the beginning of) is about five years away. Have fun.

Not that I am a Wiccan, but Wicca has NOTHING to do with beheadings, ritual killings or blood ories. You may be confused with Satanism, which also, has NOTHING to do with Wicca.

Oh, I must be confusing my cults. Which one is the one that worships Sani-Flush crystals? Orthodox Druidism? Or is that the one that is allowed to pray to bushes and shrubs? No, that's Reformed. Oh, it's just all such a jumble ...

G-13
crude and sexual humor
drinking and brief drug references
Seriously? You mean they will let 13 year olds in this movie?
I'm glad my 13 year old is now 25.
To: IronJack
Lol... "ritual beheadings and blood orgies" are not part of Wiccan ritual, so I can hardly take offense. Either you have a bad sense of humor, or are profoundly ignorant of basic religious tenets... pray tell which?
