Third debate gets nasty
Terrell, Landrieu attack each other on abortion issue
from WDSU
Election day is less than two weeks away, and the already bitter U.S. senate campaign in Louisiana got even nastier this weekend in New Orleans.
Mary Landrieu and Suzy Terrell shook hands as the third debate began. But that was the only cordial moment in the

half-hour meeting, with just 13 days remaining in the campaign. Before the taping was over, the two candidates were combative, especially on the issue of abortion. Landrieu is pro-choice, Terrell pro-life, though she was once publicly identified with a pro-choice group.
"I'm the mother of three daughters. I'm a practicing catholic," said Terrell. "I have been consistent on this issue. The only thing that Mary Landrieu has been consistent on-she has been consistently opposed to life."
Landrieu defended herself. "I voted against late term abortion. I have promoted adoption. I respect life. At least, I am consistent in my position, unlike ms. Terrell, who has had four positions on this very important issue."
When the debate was over, both headed for the door, Landrieu saying over her shoulder, "this is your last campaign," and Terrell responded by saying, "she threatened me."
The next scheduled debate will be this Tuesday at 7:00 on LPB.

I'm due to go back offshore tomorrow so I'll be voting absentee this morning at the registrars office. We need to keep the spotlight on Mary and her obnoxious behavior. Hopefully this story will grow legs and help to motivate the base to turnout and dump Landrieu.

Mary has dyed her campaign positions conservatively to try to keep her liberal roots from showing. But Mary, the voters know your natural colors.

This is good news. History shows when a Democrat gets uncivil, they know their out the door.

Landrieu is clearly on the defense....evidence she's realizing that she's losing! Hallelujah!
All that is needed is for conservatives to VOTE! That's where Republicans in Louisiana should be putting maximum effort.

"All that is needed is for conservatives to VOTE" Just got back and there was a slow trickle of voters arriving when I left. They looked like good conservative folks to me.

I usually vote absentee either via mail or walkin because I work offshore and most times my schedule conflicts with regular election days.

Well this isn't a political observation, but looking at the clothing of each woman, I'd venture to guess that most folks watching got the impression that Suzie Terrell would be more active and alive in office. Mary Landrieu is wearing a beige-tan jacket which almost matches her hair color and would make her look washed out (washed up?) and cold on tv. Suzie, however is wearing a brilliant blue jacket which looks great with her coloring, and it seems it would make her whole face more alive and warm. I know these might be subtle things, but for folks who haven't thought much about the candidates and who have no particular political affiliation, the LOOKS of the candidates go a long way.
Could someone who actually SAW the debate let me know if my theory is likely?

I saw the debate and I would agree with you. Terrell looked very solid and did not seem any where as near as combative. My wife, who is a pretty good critic of politicos, really disliked the "tone that Landrieu took" when she was questioning what Terrell questioned one of the Senator's votes on the D.C. Appropriations Committee. Great lively debate. LA will be well represented by Terrell.
