Rob Reiner is a political activist. He toured with Ed Asner and Martin Sheen for Gore-Lieberman 2000, he helped write Gore's recent coming out speech (and attack on our CIC) - the list is long.

Lands' End chose a well-known leftist activist for their Christmas spokeman - to teach us about 'family values'. Our family says, "Goodbye, Lands' End."

Here is a copy of my message to Lands End:

Rob Reiner is a very poor choice to represent the values that Christmas represent. He is an avid radical leftist socialist who supports policies that will hurt, not help families. I don't think you know your market as well as you think. Lands End has been a first choice for our family for years...and I live 15 minutes from LLBean. I hope you reconsider your choice and make less divisive, less political choices in the future for your spokesmen.

I just told them to stop all catalogues and that I would no longer purchase from them.

Land's End is also a sponsor of leftist Garrison Keillor's Prarie Home Companion show on NPR.

I'm glad to know this because I order from Land's End a lot. Too bad. Oh well. Eddie Bauer will be happy to get my next order.

I sent them an email letting them know how I feel about the Meathead. Needless to say, they wont be getting a dime of my money.

I dont know if LL Bean is more conservative politically or not, but they do have better clothes.

Ease up on Lands' End, okay? They were looking to save money on costume rental, that's all. Fathead doesn't need padding to play Santa.

My email to Lands' End:

Rob Reiner as Santa Claus? Please. The man's an ardent, fist-in-the-air socialist and a reliable opponent of every foundational American value. He is an advocate of limitless government meddling and pickpocket confiscation, an enemy of individualism, and a committed collectivist and race-baiter. He runs with a ranting far-left Limousine Liberal crowd that includes Alec Baldwin and Spike Lee who have explicitly advocated obstructionism and violence against their opponents. He'd be much better suited for Robin Hood tights than a Santa Claus outfit.

I've been a Lands End customer for two decades. No more. There are few choices you could have made that could have been more offensive to the spirit of Christmas.

Sears Roebuck used to be one of the great american companies, but everything thay have touched for the last 30 years has turnerd to cr@p.

They bought Lands End, "The Sears of the 21st Century", the hottest marketer around and have instantly screwed it up.

Boycott Sears as Well, they are the owners.

My response from Lands' End:

Thank you for your message to Lands' End. We apologize if you are concerned by our choice to have Rob Reiner on our catalog. Your concerns will be forwarded to the appropriate Lands' End department.

If we may be of further assistance, please let us know.

If I am concerned? If I am concerned?

They must not read terribly well.

Dear Mr. ****:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us regarding our selection of Rob Reiner as our mystery Santa. Thanks also for your comments regarding his political background and views. We're sorry we upset you with this choice.

However, there is no political approach at work here on Lands' End's part, or any reference to politics in the catalog. This is strictly about doing right by children through the I Am Your Child Foundation.

Mr. ****, we would like to thank you again for your e-mail and taking the time to bring your views to our attention.

Sincerely,
Richard Mensch
Customer Relations

From the "I am your child" foundation website (Reiner's message):

In addition, I Am Your Child is working to promote increased public spending on early childhood programs because if we invest more money in early childhood programs we'll save a lot of money on the other end. These public policy goals are vital to our children, our families, and to our entire society. Policy makers must increase investment in affordable quality child care; expand pre-school programs; increase commitments to early intervention programs for families at risk; and provide more resources for health programs that address not only children's nutritional and physical needs, but also their emotional needs.

Blecchh. Whatever happened to Moms and Dads?

I'll give Lands End the benefit of the doubt until I hear a response. Not only are they a "local" company for me, the little town that they operate out of in Wisconsin is in solid Bush country. I'm not about to punish a company for what is currently just a stupid move at this point.
