Why did the Democrats lose big time?

Why did the Democrats lose big time?
It is pretty simple really. When drilling ANWR would create union jobs the Dems shut it down. Better to import oil and be held hostage to the middle east. Make sure you thank the Democrats every time you fill up for the high price of gas.
The whole gun issue the Dems want more and more control. But the American public is quickly learning that gun laws only make the criminal safe. Study after study has proven that conceal carry permits prevent crime. But being the typical Democrats they ignore the facts and sell fear.
The Democrats align themselves with the radical Environmental groups who the American people are quickly learning only want to steal property rights and close out jobs.
With the internet more and more people are shutting off the liberal press and reading the truth. This is great for the country and can only further expose the Democrats are do nothing party soon to be extinct.

You have exaggerated the economic and geopolitical importance of ANWR by an exponential factor of about 5. So many like to think that their own personal agenda is what is squaring the circle. I guess it is human nature.

Maybe it was just because they're jerks.
Call me a cynical old bastard, but I am highly skeptical that policy positions had one whole honkin' lot to do with it.

Let's see; whining, snivling, widespread paranoia, name-calling, thier hypocritical stance on SUV's (or sex, or welfare reform.)
Not enough bandwidth to waste.

I can't see one good reason not to drill at ANWAR

Americans are wising up to the fact that the DemocRATS run as conservatives, and govern as liberals (the Clintoon model of a "New DemocRAT"). Clintoon supposedly built a bridge to the new century. When the DemocRATs crossed back over to dig up Lautenberg and Mondale, the bridge collapsed. People across American have seen how the DemocRATs plan to use the courts to subvert the Rule of Law (Florida and New Jersey supreme courts, and Justice Souter). In this recent election, Republicans have been given the opportunity to put up a wall of Conservative-leaning judges to provide the check and balance needed at the national level.
Thanks to Conservative news outlets and talk radio, the word got out. It was shown that the Democrats plan is to critize Republican plans. This is why the Contract with America was so successful. If you go to the people with a plan (a real plan) they will see that the other guys don't have one. The DemocRATs response to the Contract with America was to call it the "Contract on America" -- they offered no plan of their own. Bush needs to work with his new Congressional leaders and craft a plan that can be presented center stage at the State of The Union. Then the Republican National Committee needs to mass mail the plan with some specifics to as many moderate and conservative households as possible. The DemocRATs can't compete. Criticizing will just cost them more House and Senate seats.

Thanks for posting. It would be a good thing to see more posts such as yours and less of the moral-liberaltarian vanity whines.

The Democratic position on the 2nd Amendment has plenty to do with their problems. After they lost the House in 1994 even Barney Frank pointed out they should give up their anti gun policies because it cost them the House and thereby killed the chance they could enact into law all their other proposals. This one issue cost Gore the Presidency and was a big part of the Republican tide this year.

Like most Americans, I think, I have not studied ANWAR...I'll take Bush's word that it is good or bad.
Torie is correct ANWAR was a non-issue in the elections for most people except the enviro-freaks.

You forgot abortion. Quite a few Republicans who were openly and proudly pro-life defeated Dems. Generally, the pro-life, pro-gun, less-tax candidate took the race.
Exceptions were few; and when Dems won (Lautenberg) it was because the Pubbie was very weak on all the above.

The internet and talk radio played a part, but I believe it is simply because we are at war and when threatened people band together behind the president. They still talk highly of FDR and that tyrant was just as bad ,if not worse, than Clinton.
