The Dish: Lunch With Tipper and Al Gore
Washington Post ^ | November 21, 2002 | Lloyd Grove

You've seen them on television, you've read about them in magazines, you've heard from them on the radio -- and now Al and Tipper Gore spill their guts (or, at the very least, flog their books) in The Reliable Source.

Last week in New York -- sandwiched on their schedule between Katie Couric and David Letterman -- we finally redeemed our long-promised lunch with the ex-veep and his wife. They're in the midst of a media juggernaut to tout two joint publishing ventures: "Joined at the Heart," an anecdotal book on the modern American family, and "The Spirit of Family," a companion coffee-table photo collection.

Tipper, who arrived chewing gum, wore an autumnal orange jacket.....

Pull my finger to read the rest.

"Certain subjects touch him," Tipper quipped.

I beg your pardon!

What depth. What insight. How unfortunate that we were deprived of these two for leadership.

"I was surprised at apparently how very few people were neutral," he said.

You mean people actually make up their own minds? Without taking a poll?

From article: Al sported the same boldly purple shirt that has been seen this week on the "Today" show and in Time magazine.

I guess the polls showed that people liked the purple shirt best.

It's becoming so obvious that he's in the midst of yet another makeover, this time in the hopes of targeting not just the soccer mom, but the typical middle-class working family. Still trying to be someone that Americans can relate to, hoping to be the Sympathizer in Chief.

Tipper, quit pulling his strings and just run yourself...

Tipper, who arrived chewing tobacco, wore an orange jump suit, and Al sported that same boldy purple half shirt and belly-button ring that has been seen this week.

Over stagnant seafood and erotic cheeses, we laughed at Al's lack of eyebrows. Al got sleepy as he talked of his sudden memory of his ever growing bald spot.

Isn't there a SNL sketch call "The Dish" or is it something else? I thought this article was going to be a take-off on Anna can't-remember-name doing her "Dish" radio show with Al and Tipper. Strange picture.
