I am so angry I can barely write. Fritz: you put Hitler into power, who unleashed more hell and misery than can be described. My family livedf through the hell of the Blitz; I've been to Auschwitz and seen what you monsters did. If there had been true justice we would have beaten you to death as a nation, smashed you into a million pieces and never let you get up again. And now you complain about Winston? Shut up.

Ivan

Let 'em have it Ivan! That's about the most offensive thing I've ever seen. We're probably gonna have to slap them down again in a few decades.

Bump for Churchill.

Would that we had more like him in our dark times today.

Well like some general said
It's OK if we bomb them in their factories making munitions during the day what's wrong with doing it at night in their homes

The idea of INNOCENT CIVILIANS always seemed like a contradiction to me

I remember in WWII how everyone was getting behind the war effort and proudly claiming they were helping so I guess it was OK to shoot a soldier but not the guy building the guns

...the tabloid Bild has called for recognition to be given to the suffering inflicted on the German population during the strategic air campaign of 1940-45.

Sounds like the tabloid should be renamed Bilge, Ivan. In other words, what rubbish!

Total Barbra Streisand. (yikes! that's a scary phrase. I'll just type BS in future.) The Brits bombed whole cities because, even with radio guidance - finding your way to the target at night by means of a radio signal and whole lot of mathematics - the technology of the time (meaning heavy bombers like the Halifax) weren't accurate enough to reliably put the bomb within a mile of the target. So, no aiming for a factory. You have to aim at the city it's in and hope you hit the factory, or the railyard, or refinery, or whatever.

The US tried higher altitude bombing in daylight, and achieved greater accuracy, but at the cost of much higher casualties.

I pity the kids who haven't heard all this straight from the source ie from WWII vets and who are reduced to getting their info from revisionists and fools.

The appalling destruction of Dresden stands out even amid everything else that was going on, it's true. And it's probably also true that the attack on the city was militarily unnecessary - I'll leave that one for the experts. All I can say is when you've made it your daily business for close to six years to kill Germans, it's hard to stop. That's war. It's something to think about before invading Poland or throwing in your lot with a sawed-off Austrian socialist.

Tell 'em, Ivan.

Rotterdam set the example, you revisionist Nazi SOBs.

You unleashed hell, then complain that your fingers got burned. Get stuffed.

The suffering of the population in London is far more relevant. After all, the citizens of London didn't vote in Hitler.

How about the bombing of Rotterdam to coerce the Dutch into surrendering to Germany. This might have been the first use of terror bombing.

No, wait I forgot. The (German) Condor Legion practiced terror bombing during the Spanish Civil War.

This is most certainly a lot of trash. However, it is interesting that Her Friedrich lays the blame on Churchill and England when he could have just as easily mis-blamed the USA, who surely dropped more bombs on Germany than the British. In a strange way it’s nice to see a country other than the USA get blamed for something – even though it is misplaced.

Sour grapes from a bloody Brit?

You "won" a war and squandered your post-war U.S. aid on trying to maintain your "empire" (which you lost anyway), instead of rebuilding your worn out industries.

Germany "loses" the war, spent it's U.S. aid wisely, and is now set to command a European Union, of which "Great" Britain will be a subservient part.

For what Churchill "allowed" Harris to do to Dresden, they both should have been seated next to Goering and Hess at Nuremburg.

Yesterday Antony Beevor, (said) "The trouble is this argument is removed from the context that they were the ones who invented terror bombing," he said, referring to German attacks on Coventry, Rotterdam and Warsaw.

"They literally obliterated whole cities and that certainly preceded what the British did," he said. "What we did was more terrifying and appalling, but it was a natural progression in this war.

"One can certainly debate the whole morality of bombing, but for Germans to say Churchill was a war criminal is pushing it a bit," he said.

I spoke to Antony not long ago, jolly nice chap, a master of tactful understatement. One of his Russian translators is a personal friend of mine too.

As for the Germans, what do you expect from a bunch of whingeing bratwurst guzzling lefties. I paraphrase: "We aren't to blame, it was all our elected leader's fault. Your bombing campaign was far worse than ours, even if we did start it!"

THIS from the people who stood by while millions were shoved into ovens. The same people who saw no evil, spoke no evil and heard no evil while it was all around them. People who stood by and did NOTHING to stop the senseless massacre of million of people.

Sorry, I don't have even an ounce of pity for them. The Germans are turning out to be almost as dispicable people as the Arab fundamentalists. I'm willing to bet when we get into Iraq, we find an awful lot of german equipment in Saddams labs.

We almost had the West Germans stabilized until the Soviet Empire fell. Then they much, much too hastily reunified with the east, and now I think that in the long run all bets are off. The Nazi-Stalinist streak in the east and the nutty Left in the west are fusing into we-know-not-what-but-we-can-guess.

My view of the big picture: the period from 1914-1945 represented the real trend of post-modern European civilization: disdain for popular government and the liberal (classical sense) tradition; worship of destructive power; exaltation of the State. The British, led by an eighteenth century Whig (Winston), held off the future till the crude American cowboys could join the fight, and together we put the clock back for a while.

We've had fifty good years of free civilization as a result, domestic political idiocies notwithstanding. But there's no question about it: the Fascists are back, and they have even more friends among the Anglo-American elites than they did the first time around. Yet here we are again, the Magna Carta crowd, the British, the Australians, and the Americans -- come home, Canada, we'll leave a light on for you -- standing athwart history saying "Hell no!"

My grandmother was sent away from London during the Blitz; her father was in the Royal Navy. She'd better not see this or her English reserve will vanish.

Really, what is up with Europeans? (English excepted, naturally)

The sad part is there are a bunch of dumb SOB's who really believe this self-serving BS.

The clowns in Germany are ruining the EU economy while spending their time rewriting history.
