CHICAGO, GUNS, CRIMINALS AND LAWYERS - STILL GOING AFTER THE CASH MARK A SITY 11/17/02
A law suit by the city of Chicago was just allowed to go forward by an appellate court against gun makers and sellers. On it's face it is just plain silly. One of my first published editorials to the local rag warned about this, I believe I titled it "Who's Job Next?" The tobacco cash grab started the ball rolling, and I predicted that other industries would soon be in the lawyer's sights if they pulled that one off. Well, they pulled it off; and the end is no where in sight. Guns and fast food seem to be the favored targets since the "tobacco money" has now been spent. Recently some parents of pudgy kids filed suit against McDonalds because these parents allowed their kids to eat at McDonalds 7 days a week, and the parents think it's McDonald's fault that their kids are fat. Chicago and other cities have sued gun makers and sellers for murders that happened with illegal guns.
The key word here is ILLEGAL! Chicago has full gun registration, yet has daily murders that happen with illegal guns. Yet, the restrictions on carrying a concealed weapon seem only to hamper law abiding citizens. Imagine that; only law abiding citizens seem to obey the laws. Criminals on the other hand, feel no need to obey laws. I wonder; is there some secret here that's been kept from us? A secret like criminals are people who disregard the laws? Maybe this means that no matter what law is passed, it will not stop someone with criminal tendencies?
Yet are the criminals, and those that enable them, named in the law suit? Heck no! This law suit targets companies that obey the laws! It targets Winchester, Remington, Browning, Colt, etc. It targets local gun dealers that comply with the twisted IL laws regarding who, when, where and how they can make a sale. IT DOES NOT TARGET gun thieves, murderers, gang members, drug dealers or judges and juries that put them back on the street. It does not target illegal gun sellers. It doesn't target the ACLU for defending such trash. It doesn't target Jessie Jackson for defending such trash. It doesn't target judges that put trash back on the street to commit more crimes. Nor does it target trial lawyers who defend violent trash.
In fact, it is sponsored by trial lawyers who feel the need to put violent criminals back on the streets to commit more violent crimes. I'd support a law suit by victims of violent crime targeting judges, juries, and parole boards that put known violent criminals back on the streets. However, this suit targets only people who obey the laws. This of course is no surprise. What's the point of targeting criminals or lawyers? Heck, they won't pay!

Scum of the earth, or curiously better adapted to modern conditions than the average citizen or corporation? Hmmm.....

I think this development in Wisconsin
Wisconsin: Concealed weapon law infringes on rights, court told
is interesting in view of the fact that the Illinois Constitution in Article I (Bill of Rights) states
SECTION 22. RIGHT TO ARMS
Subject only to the police power, the right of the individual citizen to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

It's all about who has the power. Criminals have power, since they're willing to ignore laws in exchange for occasional incarceration. Lawyers have power, since they are the ones who a) make the laws, b) argue about what the law really means, and c) use the law as their own blunt instrument for their own gain. Politicians, too, have power, since they seem to be immune to prosecution for any but the most egregious offenses. In a game like this, the loser is the one who plays by the rules as they are written, not as they are played. The losers are people who have something to lose, either a viable business or a nice home life and a good job. My point, then, is that it's no wonder that lawyers and criminals don't follow the laws--they don't have to.

I don't disagree with what you've said. However, what I don't understand is why citizens of Chicago allow their capacity to protect themselves be taken away. I wonder how many illegal guns are owned by otherwise law-abiding Chicago residents? Hmm. . . .

3 reasons that scientists are using lawyers instead of rats for AIDS testing:
1. There are more lawyers than rats.
2. The lab workers get attached to and have compassion for the rats.
3. There are some things even rats won't do.

The citizens still think of themselves as law-abiding individuals, rather than criminals. I'm sure they sleep better at night that way, but wait 'til they defend themselves with those illegal guns they've got. Cynics would say that government generated so many laws in order to have power over people--you can't get as much leverage over an honest citizen as you can a criminal. They're being forced to choose between what their instict says (arm themselves in the presence of animals) or what their wallet says (submit or lose your house/family/business/life). Expect to see more mass shootings by freaked-out Joe Sixpacks if this keeps up.

Ok, you asked for it.
A woman goes in for her anual exam, and complains to the doctor that her husband has developed a fetish for anal sex. The doc asks if she enjoys it. She says yes. Then if it hurts her. She says no. Then the doctor says she has nothing to worry about, but to just be careful not to get pregnant.
The woman is confused and tells the doctor that, "you can't get pregnant that way, can you?"
The doctor asks, "Where do you think Lawyers come from?"

Few citizens of Shitcago proper have any real though processes; they are sheeple. Trust me, I have to drive through there in the early stages of rush hour often enough. There are few brain cells in crook county. Most of the half way intelegent ones moved to the far suburbs.

They are at risk while in the city. Don't they have any influence on gun laws?
