SKAKEL FILM EVEN UGLIER THAN REAL-LIFE TRIAL TRAVESTY (Dunleavy)
New York Post ^ | 11/16/2002 | Steve Dunleavy

November 16, 2002 -- STEVE Skakel was amused, puzzled and, yes, outraged when he saw his brother's life on television last night in a movie called "Murder In Greenwich" - based on the book by former LAPD detective Mark Fuhrman.

What is the deal with Dunleavy and the Skakels? Does he seriously believe there is NO evidence at all against Skakel, or is he just lying through his teeth? Does the fact that the golf club was a Tony Pena from the Skakel house make no difference, or Michael changing his story years later?

A Kennedy (albeit a minor one) finally was forced to pay for a crime, and there are still people out there who defend them.

Dunleavy writes good columns occasionally, but this one had me sick.

As I recall, Dunlavey kissed John Gotti's coffin goodbye; he seems a bit strange and certainly ingratiated himself with the Skakel family. He can call Mark Fuhrman all the names he wants; but for him, Dominick Dunne and Dorothy Moxley, there would never have been a conviction for murder in what appears to have been an open and shut case against the dirty little monster Michael Skakel (the Greenwich police appeared to have been thoroughly incompetent and that's being kind). By the way, Mr. Steven Skakel, if your brother was so innocent, why did he NOT take the stand and scream out his outrage at this filthy accusation? An innocent person would have.

Read the book, Dunleavy, then ask yourself why you're defending the man who perpetrated such a horrifically brutal murder...

Actually, if you read the column carefully, you will find that Steve Dunleavy says virtually nothing at all. He simply reports comments made by Skakel's brother during an interview. He does not comment on them, evaluate them, agree with them, or even react to them. He got an interview with a celebrity, or at least someone connected to celebrities, and he simply reports what the guy says.

It's not surprising that Steve Skakel sticks up for his brother. To me, his comments come across as lightweight trivia. God knows what he thought he was doing attending this movie. Maybe a liberal reading the column would come up with a different reaction. But Dunleavy doesn't tell anyone what to think.

"I hope the producers all make a buck and tomorrow have to look in the mirror when they shave."

This has never been a problem for libs. They are all, "beautiful people," in a Dorian Gray kind of way, and indeed, lead their lives oblivious to, and in denial of reality.

"...my brother is looking at a lot of time in jail away from the love of his life, his son, 4-year-old George..."

Tell it to the Moxleys...

I might agree with you if not for the four words that end the column.

In 1975, I worked at a golf course in Greenwich.

The Greenwich Police visited all the golf courses in Greenwich inquiring about Tony Pena clubs.

The murder weapon matched a missing club in the Skakel home.

The Greenwich Police looked the other way.

Fuhrman is a hero!!

Hey, Skakel:

We conservatives are USED to being lied about and slandered by Hollywood. Try putting yourself in the shoes of a conservative and watching West Wing sometime.

Welcome to our world.

For the last ***** time: This guy was NOT a "Kennedy."

Say my name is "Smith." My wife was a McGillicuddy. She has a sister, who marries a Farquahar. The sister has a son. That son is a Farquahar. You can also say he is a McGillicuddy.

But in no way, shape or form can you say he is a "Smith."

The Kennedy-Skakel family sacrificed it's son Michael to protect the family name.

What a laugh!!

If they had encouraged the truth from the start, Michael might have served minimal time in prison.
His tortured life might have been repaired.

Teddy Kennedy in the summer of 1969 was protected similarly.
His life after Chappaquidick has been a running joke.

The Kennedy mystique has been tarnished forever.

The only good Kennedys died young.

But in no way, shape or form can you say he is a "Smith."

But, he would be "A First Cousin" to the "Smith Cousins" and, if the Smiths use their political muscle to cover up one of his crimes, that would be considered covering up for "Family".

I'm not addressing the relationship, I'm addressing the insistence by the media that things like this be sensationalized through inaccuracies, etc.

I was also extremely irritated when they continually proclaimed that the year 2000 was the "first year of the new millenium," when in fact it is the LAST century of the OLD millenium.

The press considers that we're all stupid, and they take advantage of that, so they think, to sell their advertising.

I simply don't like it when FReepers parrot their stupid inaccuracies.

And he is 'family' with the Kennedys in the same sense that the 'Sopranos', or 'Corleones', are family among one another. 'Capisce'? 'Famiglia', caro, 'Famiglia'! What makes you think we don't have the same types in Greenwich, Boston, Hyannisport, Chappaquidick, or the Emerald Island?

Many many years ago when I was twenty three, I got married to a widow who was pretty as could be.

This widow had a grown-up daughter who had hair of red. My father fell in love with her, and soon the two were wed.

This made my dad my son-in-law And changed my very life. My daughter was my mother, For she was my father's wife.

To complicate the matters worse, Although it brought me joy, I soon became the father Of a bouncing baby boy.

My little baby then became A brother-in-law to dad. And so became my uncle, Though it made me very sad.

For if he was my uncle, Then that also made him brother To the widow's grown-up daughter Who, of course, was my step-mother.

Father's wife then had a son, Who kept them on the run. And he became my grandson, For he was my daughter's son.

My wife is now my mother's mother And it makes me blue. Because, although she is my wife, She is my grandma too.

If my wife is my grandmother, Then I am her grandchild. And every time I think of it, It simply drives me wild.

For now I have become The strangest case you ever saw. As the husband of my grandmother, I am my own grandpa.

They're liberals, they're elite, they're desusional. Martha
bludgeoned herself to death. The Kid (no more) has been framed by the disgraced LA cop.

(All join in the chorus!)

"Oh, I'm my own grandpa,
I'm my own grandpa.
It sounds funny, I know,
But it really is so,
Oh, I'm my own grandpa."

What WOULD we do without Lonzo and Oscar?

O.K., I will concede your second point. FReepers should stick to the facts.

However, in regards to your first point about the media, my position is summed up by what a FReeper said here in #8. :-)

Skakel isn't a Kennedy but they helped him. And Furman, whom I like and got a bad rap, did not solve this case. Dom Dunne got the Sutton report from an unnamed writer who put it together for Sutton and that material nailed Michael Skakel. So the person who really convicted Skakel was his own father who commisioned the Sutton Detective agency to clear his sons and instead got what he paid for, the truth. Beautiful isn't it?
