I consider myself a Christian and Conservative Republican but I sure don't appreciate Robertson, Falwell, and Swaggart and their rhetoric that doesn't quit against all Muslims.
We have Muslims in my community that are as supportive of the United States as anyone else here. You don't tar and feather a whole religious group for the actions of some rogue people who use the religion as a shield for what they are doing.
This reminds me of the Clinton's attack on white males because a very, very small portion of them were militia members. They tarred and feathered a whole group of white males with their comments. Or how about their comments about conservative talk radio as hate radio and all conservatives as members of the vast right wing conspiracy.

Hmmm. Not really. If you press them on it, they have devotion to a theoretical United Islamic States (under Sharia) but wish to destroy the society you and I live in (literally).

"We have Muslims in my community that are as supportive of the United States as anyone else here." PLEASE have them appear in public saying they oppose terrorism. I constantly sift news reports looking for any muslim willing to unequivocally condemn terrorism, and I've found about three since 9/11/01.
I don't doubt your veracity (I respect your regular posts), but the muslim community is virtually silent in opposing terror, allowing terror supporters to define the religion.

Which muslim leaders have unconditionally, publicly and consistently condemned militant islam and its adherants; have called for secular regimes to replace islamic governments; have supported Israel's right to statehood and have endorsed the possible war against Iraq? Until that happens I consider islam to be the enemy. I guess you still believe it's the "religion of peace."

I hate to tell you what is really at work here, but with nothing else to do for the moment... here goes. First and foremost the muslims in your neighborhood are NOT, and this bears repeating, are NOT the majority of muslims. What you fail to see, hear, and most importantly understand is that the majority of muslims live outside the United States. They live in other countries where they show open support for terrorists as well as aid them in any way they can. In fact, that is exactly what the "good" muslims do even in your neighborhood!! ie: phoney muslim charities. WAKE UP!!!! They don't just hate Jews and Christians... if you are not one of them then they want to kill you too!!

Chill for a minute, kid. You stated that the muslims in your area are supportive of the US, but you didn't state how you know that. Have you talked with them individually, in depth, and heard each of them state that they'd fight as Americans, for America? Or do they just nod their heads and smile politely at you? I think what some have said to you here are simply trying to see if you're making your statements based on assumptions or actual facts. That's all.
I'm a conservative Christian and I can't stand Pat, Jerry and Jimmy. I refuse to give them the time of day, so I understand your feelings about their latest statements. But I also understand why many Americans are somewhat suspect of people who practice the muslim religion.

the reason why so many people on freerepublic have a negative view towards muslims is because it's more than "some rogue people " involved in anti american, anti semetic, activities. just because the muslims you see everyday smile and wave doesn't mean the majority of them are non-hostile. 1 good muslim out of 10 does me no good, and this ratio is not unrealistic when you consider all the muslims across the world. think about the muslims as a whole and remember that many more millions than the ones that smile and wave in this country are spreading hate and participating in terrorism in the world. I know alot cool muslims, but we can't go tippy-toeing around because we don't want the good muslims to get their feelings hurt. this is war and we must protect ourselves. if the muslims in this country are REAL americans, they will put up with necessary tasks by the government, i.e. reducing immigration from muslim countries and cracking down on student visa violations. also, the truth is the truth, and "good muslims" shouldn't be offended by what people say about the bad muslims.

It's just that most shirk their Constitutional duty to be well armed & trained. Do you think that those who don't shirk their duty should be tarred & feathered?

Good for you. Frankly, I find it amusing that Jimmie Swaggert calls anyone a sexual deviant after his days of trolling for New Orleans prostitutes, or that his fellow televangelist Jim Bakker and Jessica Hahn were getting it on while Tammy Faye,.......oh well.
As for Robertson and Fallwell and Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, just shut up.
To: PhiKapMom
Just go read the Koran, I mean really read it, then come back and tell us that what Robertson and Falwell are saying isn't true....I'm not worried about nominal muslims, anymore than I am about nominal christians...neither really practices the fine points of their religion, so they are not a threat to anyone, muslim, christian, or whatever.
I understand what Powell and Bush are trying to do, but I think it's wrong to call truth "hate speech". This is no time to be going PC about things. Truth should be spoken, in it's proper setting, and in its proper time, and spoken is such a way that it enlightens rather than antagonizes.

During World War 2, we had German-Americans, Italian-Americans, and Japanese-Americans volunteering to join the military and fight. Our commander of US forces against Germany (General Eisenhower) was a German-American
When I start seeing stories of Muslim Americans lining up at the Army recruiters offices for a chance to go fight against the Islamofascists, I'll start feeling a little better towards them. Not before
