In his first interviews since conceding the presidency to George W. Bush almost two years ago, former vice president Al Gore calls the outcome of the 2000 election "a crushing disappointment" and criticizes the 5-4 Supreme Court decision that put Bush in the White House as "completely inconsistent" with the court's conservative philosophy.
"I believe that if everyone in Florida who tried to vote had had his or her vote counted properly, that I would have won," Gore said in an interview with Washington Post Magazine staff writer Liza Mundy for an article to be published Sunday. "I strongly disagreed with the Supreme Court decision and the way in which they interpreted and applied the law. But I respect the rule of law, so it is what it is."
Gore told ABC's Barbara Walters, in an interview to air tonight on ABC's "20/20," that he "absolutely" believed he would become president when the Florida Supreme Court ordered a recount of all disputed ballots in the state, making the result all the more emotionally difficult to accept. His wife, Tipper, said in the Post interview, "I still believe we won."

Pokey, where does this guy get the money to flit around the country. If I recall, his net worth was somewhere between $500k and $900k. I thought he was supposed to be working in California for a brokerage company. I don't get it. How is he doing all of this travelling and never showing up for a job?

Crushing? I'd say his ego was deflated. How many times has he run now, three? He is so obsessed with winning the presidency that he would do more harm to our country based on his madman mentality.

That law school dropout isn't fit to lick Clarence Thomas' shoe. Go to hell, Gore.

Whoa there! That's nowhere near what could be done constitutionally. If the Florida legislature sent the certified delegates and the Florida Supreme Court sent another or they sent no delegates at all, I believe it then goes to the U.S. House of RepresentativesOn reflection I think your right that the next step would be the US House of Reps, although I do remember one of the legal types explaining a course of events where it could have ended up in the US Senate and have been kicked back to Jeb Bush in the case of a tie--it just stuck in my mind because of the irony.

Thank you.
That Sore Loserman sign still says it all, even today.
BTW, it was that sign that first lead me to FreeRepublic back in Nov 2000. I laughed my head off when I saw it in the groups of FLA protestors...and at that moment somehow I knew for sure that we would win.

The actual home owned by Gen. Harding is now a tourist attraction named "Belle Meade Mansion". But all the land in the Belle Meade area where Gore now lives was his plantation.
This place was huge! At one time, I beleive, he even built his own rail line to take goods the 6 miles to the Cumberland river at the Nashville ports.
He also was very fond of horses and bred them. At the Belle Meade mansion, you can see the actual preserved hoof of Man 'O' War! His stud lines are still considered the best today!

"I believe that if everyone in Florida who tried to vote had had his or her vote counted properly"If the idiots who "tried to vote" had voted "properly" their votes would have "counted."
If Gore had won I would have slipped across the Rio Grande long ago.

My thoughts exactly. Had Bush lost, he would be enjoying life down on his ranch with his beautiful wife.
Never trust a man who really, really wants to be President. Dubya had to be talked into it. The Republican Powers That Be went to him. He wasn't driven to the job by his ego and a raw desire for power.
Gore was bred and groomed for the Presidency by his Daddy. He was groomed so much that he became a souless automaton--a man without a personality of his own. It was both pitiful and comical to watch Gore morph form persona to persona as he tried to make himself into President. Gore truly believes it is his birthright.
Dubya on the other hand was the son of a President. He saw first hand what the job really was.
It's ironic that the man who would be king is slowing stewing in his own defeat--and he defeated himself--while the man who really didn't want the job has found his voice and his life's mission. Thank you, Lord!
