Punch-Drunk Love is a worthless trash of a movie. It is loaded with vulgarity without purpose, meaningless symbols, relationships without feeling, silliness without humor. It has no redeeming value and is a waste or time and money.
For some reason some of the critics -- for example, on Excite or several at Amazon.com gave it good write ups. I believe these people were paid or had relatives in the film. No one could like this completely flawed, boring, worthless movie.

First of all, the title turns me off. Furthermore, I've seen the trailers, and it looks horrid beyond belief.
I will not go see it, and I predict it will bomb.

I saw it last week, a touching story of one and a half disturbed people falling in love, despite their near crippling shortcommings. By far the best movie of the year, well aside from "Jackass"

Well, a few nights ago, Colin McEnroe (whiny liberal columnist/radio talk show co-host) said that he really enjoyed this movie. That's when I knew it must be crap. I can't stand Sandler in ANYTHING. Anybody listen to WTIC AM 1080? McEnroe makes me cringe sometimes. On Election eve, he implied that an unobtrusive police car at polling places was there to discourage blacks from voting. This pissed me off on so many levels, but I'm sure I'm far from the first one to hear this kind of swill. Sorry for the side-rant. If I posted a vanity, I'd incur Illbay's wrath.

It had its "artsy" and therefore inexplicable moments (what the heck was with that vehicle flipping over??? or those color bar interstices???)
But the ongoing bit about everyone violating his confidences in them was very humorous -- because we know the frustration he feels.
I would rate it a strange movie, but there were enough "I know what that must feel like" moments in it that I'm glad I saw it.

I can't stand Sandler in ANYTHING. Really? I thought "The Wedding Singer" was pretty good.

Can't wait for his animated film.
Yeah, right!

It's a good movie. I love these Free Republic movie threads where half the people on it haven't seen it but they know it's bad, they know it in their hearts. It's about a simple man who is picked on for no reason and stands up for what he knows is right. A friend who also saw it thinks it's a metaphor for Bush.
I'm surprised that more Freepers don't like it - the villians are a couple of extortionist-pornographers who hire junkies to do their dirty work. The hero is the owner of a small business, who, as I recall, wears red white and blue throughout the movie.
But hey, for most people, if they don't immediately understand something it must be bad.

It was. But you got to admit, it was the exception to the Adam Sandler Rule(that all Adam Sandler movies suck).

Paul Thomas Anderson's other film's (Boogie Nights,Magnolia) were highly over-rated, but his first film, Hard Eight was very good.

I completely agree. After seeing this movie, I wished I could have that hour or two removed from my memory banks. Complete nihilism disguised as art. Cruel, mentally ill characters and demented relationships. What a load of road apples.

Ugh -- boogie nights. Everybody said how great it was. All it was was pompous and overly long .

ODD movie?, yes it is.
Sappy love story?, yes it is.
Picked-on-loner-little guy, who finally finds love in his life which gives him strength to overcome evil.
Nice story line.
Not for immature audiences.

I read a bio on this director
What a warped puppy!
His teenage obsseion with porngraphy screwed up his life.

It was. But you got to admit, it was the exception to the Adam Sandler Rule(that all Adam Sandler movies suck). I didn't see that one. If he leaves out most of his annoying mannerisms, then I'll be open to seeing it. The promos for most of the films he was in were enough to turn me off. Which is not my fault, but the fault of the people who made the film and the commercials. I don't owe every film the benefit of the doubt.

I walked out of the theatre halfway through.

That would explain a lot.
