Media trying to outfox Fox News?
Fox News | 11-8-2 | RandallFlagg

Posted on 11/08/2002 9:00:47 PM PST by RandallFlagg

I was watching my trusty and sacred Fox News tonight. As I was getting a chuckle viewing liberals make panicked attempts to try and get their views out, I noticed something.

During The Fox Report I saw, back-to-back, a commercial for our local CBS news station with the statement, "At six, switch to News4," then, "Turn to Colorado's news team. 9News (NBC)." It was at this point that I saw something odd, so I broke out my little pen and pad and started recording.

From the last 20 minutes of The Fox Report all the way until the last commercial break for Hannity and Colmes, I counted seventeen commercials from CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and MSNBC that were telling viewers to switch channels "For complete coverage."

I've been watching Fox News religiously ever since President George W. Bush and Al Gore were locking horns in Florida. I have noticed that sometimes they advertise for CNN and some of their other news rivals. Sometimes, I see ridiculous things, like Barbra Streisand's Greatest Hits -Now on CD for only $19.95. I'd try to see if this is happening (Fox News advertising on CNN or the other channels) on other stations, but hearing and seeing their bias simply makes me too nauseous. I don't know if this observation would qualify me for the "Tin Foil Hat Of The Month" club, but I just got to thinking...

The Liberal Democrats have just been handed their hats. Campaign Finance Reform has just taken effect. One political commentator stated, "The Conservative agenda, thanks to radio talk shows and Fox News, has been allowed to be seen by the public (allowed?!?!)." And, Alan Colmes looked like he was almost in tears for the last two airings of Hannity and Colmes. Are Liberals trying to saturate the airwaves with Left-leaning bias in an attempt to get an early start to the 2004 election cycle? Are they so scared that America has turned right that they're making yet another, even more prominent strike to television viewers' senses en masse?

The main reason that Conservative Republicans have scored such a major victory and changed the face of Washington is, IMHO, due to two things. We got out the vote and stood for issues, and they got out the fear and stood on vengence. America saw that and it didn't appeal to her.

If this is an early attempt by Liberals to push an air strike, we must counter. The one way would be fire-with-fire; put out Conservative commercials (Ads for Fox News, the NRA, even a commercial for The Limbaugh Letter). If the mainstream press refuses to air this they should, publicly, be made to answer, "Why?" But we must do more than that. We have a proven method for turning others to see our point of view. The Truth. Explain that Conservatives are not racists because we have a problem with illegal immigration and that we have no problems with legal immigration because it prevents outbreaks of disease and crime. Explain that Conservatives are not bigots because we want every American to empower themselves with the tools to succeed; rather than simply put thousands more on welfare, give them the skills to better themselves by themselves. Explain what Conservatives really stand for: An undying love for America, Her truth, Her integrity, a strong military to protect Her, and lower taxes to better Her citizens. There are many other things that we stand for, and every one of them needs to be put out for all to see. We can also do it without attacking what Liberals stand for. We shouldn't lower ourselves to that point even if our opposition chooses to take this route.

This plan is only the opinion of one Freeper among many. Add to it if you wish, but nevertheless, the message must go out to the country and the world to show what we're made of.

DU ... Those Poor, Delusional Idiots Are Convinced that The Media, All the Media, Are Conservative Lapdogs!!

DUmmies are SO far to the left that even a liberal-biased media (well-documented) STILL seems to be a right-wing conspiracy.

If you are watching FOX News, this is wasted money on their part. More money for Rupert. Nobody is switching. The only time my TV moves is when whorealdo comes on. I have a little box in the lower left corner with FOX News logo burnt into my screen. Even when its off, I'm watching Fox.

It sounds like Fox is letting the liberal, elite, left-wing media pay for their more popular network. I think it is funny. I think they know that we're not going to switch because of some commercial, we're smarter than that.

Yeah, but seventeen times in a span of two hours?! I've never seen that much before. All I'm saying is that we must be ready for this and to try and counter it (email Fox, suggest Conservative advertising on other stations) with volume. We can't let liberals do this without opposition early in the game. They're stacking the deck and getting ready for 2004. Increase what's proven to work and then expand.

The self-immolation by the liberal talking heads has been hugely gratifying. The Sunday morning shows will be an absolute hoot.
On the other hand George Mephistopheles, er, Stephanopolis seemed to actually gain strength from the Democrat meltdown. Best keep a wary eye on that guy. The cornered 'rat is the most dangerous.

When I was still working, I found myself in Hiltons, Sheratons etc. I went crazy listeneing to CNN blather. My wife and I now stay at Holiday Inn Express when we travel as they all have Fox news. Recently "the boss" (my wife) made reservations at a motel in San Antonio. She apologized but asked if they had Fox news prior to making the reservation. The lady told her a large number of guests ask that question before confirming the reservation.

FWIW, the local CBS affiliate here in Atlanta is also advertizing their local news on FNC. I think they're just trying to attract news junkies to their brand of local news, knowing there is no local news on FNC.

While politically I think Garrison Keillor is an idiot, he has made *the* definitive statement on TV news:

"If you watch TV news you know less about the world than if you drank gin straight from the bottle."

Of course, when he made his statement, ABCNNBCBS was the only choice, and you couldn't surf FreeRepublic on your laptop while watching/listening to FNC.

Oooow, good point. I don't normally watch / follow the weekly "Screaming Face" thread, but will have to make an exception this week. Noted.

"Wow! You're so informed and articulate! Are you from the media or a politician?!"

"No, but I did watch FoxNews at a Holiday Inn Express last night!"

what you are seeing are ROS* cable and satellite ads that can be bought by anyone.

The networks are in cardiac arrest becasue of Fox news and are trying everything but telling the truth to gain back their old viewers......

fortunately, they will not just tell the truth, so fox will never be in trouble.

In my area they show these commercials on all FOX channels.
I guess since it is cable they can do it. I have often wondered how legal it is though to cut the commercials out that are paid for nationaly. Also I have one FOX channel that keeps going off the air and I wonder if this is something intended by the cable providers. It is the only channel I have a major problem with. I am about ready to switch to a satellite system and would have already if it didnt require a receiver for every television.

Going back to your suggestion of an air war. I think in late spring or early summer some conservative groups, (not the Republican Party), should start running touchy feely dialogue ads on radio and T.V. Get the NRA, Pro-Life groups, Club for growth, and an assortment of pro freedom groups involved.

Each one would make a couple of different ads promoting their agenda. For instance, a Pro-Life group could run an ad similar to this: They call us extremists simply because they disagree that innoncent life should be protected. We feel that there are other choices which don't involve killing unborn children. People could practice abstinance or use birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancy. If a woman does get pregnant, she has other choices besides ending that growing life. She could marry the father, she could raise the child herself, she could allow a loving couple to adopt and raise that baby. See, we a re not anti-choice, we are pro-Life.

Maybe a group supporting tax cuts could do this. They say we are greedy because we want tax cuts. We refer to ourselves as pro freedom and self sufficient. Every time you pay a tax the government takes a little bit of your freedom to use your hard earned money as you want to. Bureuacrats many times use your money for things you don't want or need or would never even consider as a wise use of your effort. Why is it the business of any bureuacrat to know how much money you make or what your mortgage payment is? Remember it is not greedy to want to keep the money you earn. It is selfish of politicians to want to spend your money so they can buy votes to get re-elected. Then list a bunch of the ridiculous things that taxes go for.

I think a soft sell for a year and a half on a variety of issues could take these issues off the table for the dems. Then they'll even have less to talk about come 2004.

The time to prepare people for the next election is now.
