Nancy Pelosi on the issues
Issues 2002 ^ | N/A

Posted on 11/08/2002 7:39:42 AM PST by meandog

It is tough to find one single iota of a sliver of a particle of an atomic mass of an electron spinning in the K orbit of moderation in Ms. Pelosi's record. The next minority leader of the Democratic Party claims to "understand America" but she supports every far left philosophy known... click here for more on what is sure to be a "Nasty Nancy" for conservatives...

"Voted NO on banning partial-birth abortions. (Apr 2000)"

THIS is the face of the Democratic Party? How stupid can the Rats be to elect this woman as their leader?? (Don't answer that!) I for one am keeping my fingers crossed. If it happens, the GOP will be the majority party in the House until the Second Coming.

I knew all about Nasty Nancy beforehand, but thanks to pointing me to this great site. It's bookmarked and will get much future use.

Does anyone know of anything similar that provides background on judicial candidates? Their backgrounds and records seem to be the biggest secrets in American politics. I found a little help in California from the state's GOP website. Maybe this would be a worthwhile project for FR members if no such site now exists.

American Conservative Union ratings for the three candidates (lifetime ratings):

PELOSI(CA): 2%
FORD (TN): 12%
FROST (TX): 16%

Plus for reference:
GEPHARDT (MO): 12%
TRAFICANT (OH): 34%
MORELLA (MD): 21%
WATT (NC): 4%
...and a host of single digits in the California delegation. But yeah, Pelosi is even Left of Mel Watt!

P.S. - Frost is a "moderate"?????

I looked thru her record. Actually, she is a mainstream democrat. I regard that as radical left but it would not be hard to find plenty of her constituents that are a LOT more radical than her.

I suspect the reason she is regarded as such a radical is that, because she represents San Francisco, she has never had to pretend that she is a centrist like many in the rest of her party. Her constituents like their meat red (or their tofu white???? Somehow the idiom doesn't translate leftward with any grace).

So her rhetoric, unlike most of her colleagues in the Democrat party, matches her beliefs. As a result, she is regarded as radical.

If this waspish woman is the new face of the Dems, we will eat them for lunch in 2004. The Return of the San Francisco Democrats!

Why isn't she being called a "left wing extremist" by the press?

Actually, she'll be very, very good for the Republicans, because while a flaming liberal, she won't be liberal enough for the Greenies - and thus more potential Democrat votes will get siphoned off.

I was in downtown San Francisco the other day on business, and I saw something that I thought was weird (OK, I guess a lot of red-state people who have visited S.F. could say the same). It was an expensive-looking, professionally made sign up on a lamp-post, saying: "Pelosi says: Vote for [name of some local candidate]". Miss Nancy must have a lot of koolaid-sated constituents.

This is wonderful. To "differentiate" themselves from the Republicans, they're taking a sharp left turn towards the nearest cliff.

Could a revamped Whig party be far behind?

I searched the American Conservative Union's website for people with a worse conservative voting record than Pelosi (lifetime ACU rating 2). I found four with a 1 or 0.

Just for fun, I decided to try to find things to remind the Greens about Nancy:

Voted YES on $266 billion Defense Appropriations bill. (Jul 1999)
Recognize women veterans; assist military families. (Jul 1999)
Voted YES on keeping Cuba travel ban until political prisoners released. (Jul 2001)
Voted NO on enforcing OSHA's Ergonomics Rules at cost of $4.5B. (Mar 2001)
Voted YES on raising 401(k) limits & making pension plans more portable. (May 2001)
Voted NO on reducing tax payments on Social Security benefits. (Jul 2000)

And this is interesting, although this was a big bill that might have had some other stuff in it.:
Voted NO on disallowing the invasion of Kosovo. (May 1999)
What happened Nancy, only against Republican foreign wars?

Pelosi has been properly suspicious of China and its human rights record - she's the anti-Feinstein in that regard. Other than that, there isn't anything "moderate" about her record.
