If fraud is found on the res, it needs to be exposed. This story doesn't even mention the FBI investigation about the irregularities with the Absentee Ballot applications on the Indian Reservations!

Remember all those charts and graphs the dems used to try and show Buchannon could not have gotten those votes in Florida?
OUR TURN!
IN A CLOSE RACE
2002 Shannon County 3,118 votes cast
2,856 92% percent, went to Johnson
248 went to Thune
third-party candidate received 14 votes
IN A LANDSLIDE FOR THE DEMs (When Daschle won reelection)
1998 Shannon County 1,559 votes cast
1,228 79% went to Daschle
239 went to Republican
a third-party candidate won 92 votes
So even though the total number of voters in Shannon County has doubled, it appears that virtually none of them chose Thune. And in a close race the dem gets 92% of the vote, while in a landslide victory in 1998, the dem got only 79%.

Are the FBI still investingating those absentee voter ballots or are they done? Very interesting! Thanks.

Thune came up at the President's news conference. I think he is about to get an appointment somewhere in this adiministration for showing alot of class. The American people do not want leaders with recounts- they want leaders with class. Speak for yourself, not the American people. I want the person that received the most legitimate votes to be elected!
To: SoDak
It's hard to even post about this yet, I still feel like my heart got ripped out yesterday morning. All the blood, sweat, and tears and we lost. It might not have been so bad even if we got beat by a landslide, but to get beat by 500 votes feels awful. America still won, in the larger picture, and in SD, Repubs won every other election of consequence, but this one will be hard to get over.It has to be difficult for you right now, but just think of how you're going to feel in two years when the President takes South Dakota in a landslide re-election and Thune takes Daschle's seat. Better days are coming, for you, for John Thune and for America.
And regardless of the outcome of this particular race, there are a whole lot of us who can't even begin to thank you enough for your efforts. People like yourself are the reason Republicans took back the Senate on Tuesday.
Thank you.

Could someone explain to me how a recount will help if fraudulent ballots were inserted into the mix? I mean, the ballots will still be there so they'll be counted again, right? What am I missing here?
To: who knows what evil?
you noticed that eh?....
each time we act like timid little children afraid to raise their hand in school...we bring further and further fraud upon us....
the demorats KNOW that we are weak and spineless....that's why they pull this crap....they know they will get away with it....

I have been VERY PO'd for the last couple days with those who attack "all SD pubs are fools!" I know what you mean. We Minnesotans were getting the same treatment from a lot of folks before the election.
There are just too many discrepancies here, as well as similarities to past situations where Dem candidates needed X amount of votes to win and at the end of the counting, those votes suddenly appeared. I sincerely hope the truth will come to light, and that there will be consequences for those who broke the law. I agree with whoever posted that the Dems will resume cheating on a larger scale next time, if they are allowed to get away with this.
To: tamikamaria
you make a lot of sense.....
we do have to ask first and foremost why the rest of the state who we would think would be conservative did not go hook, line and sinker for Thune and instead, made the Res. voters the ones with the power....
we also have to question why Thune did not campaign more and yes....make more promises...that's the way the game is played.....and reassure the Indian voters...
But on the other hand, I don't know how you hand someone a six year term when there already has been documented proof of fraud endeavors....

Perhaps "the American people" you so speak for so presumptuously would like to see vote fraud identified, the election results corrected, and the perps sent to prison. Count me in. I want this election settled correctly, I don't think we needs another illegally elected 'Rat in this Senate.

If laws are to be obeyed then why do election officials break the law by not counting ABSTAIN votes? No U.S. election official counts ABSTAIN votes for non-Congressional voting. Those votes are tallied as "machine-error", or attributed to "voter confusion."
The reality is that the voter voted for "none of the above," which is a legally cast ABSTAIN vote.
To count these votes as votes for yourself is to GORE an election, something THE NINE SUPREMES overlooked in 2000.

In the words of a man I someday soon hope to forget,"I feel your pain". I really do. I know how bad I felt when I logged onto Free Republic Tuesday morning after thinking Thune had one and then seeing it snatched away...probably fraudulently. Being a veteran of many campaigns I can only imagine how you must feel. Here's a case where the best man certainly did not win.
I hope you can find consolation in the fact that Daschle is no longer Majority Leader, that President Bush now has a Congress he can work with, that John Thune's talents will be put to good use in the service of his country and that he lives to fight another day! And I hope that day is in 2004 and his opponent is the dwarf Daschle.

"On Tuesday, 2,856 Pine Ridge Indian Reservation voters in Shannon County, 92 percent, cast votes for Johnson."
To: backhoe
A couple of questions to ask:
Why did the Governor do so well and not Thune? Usually many people vote on the same line?
How many votes did Rounds get in Shannon County?
Inquiring minds would like to know.
[South Dakotas new governor ] ...Rounds won by a 57-42 margin over Abbott
...The Pierre insurance executive and former state senator claimed all but half a dozen counties to continue the Republican hold on the executive office that has been unbroken since 1979.

To: MrPeanut
In this case, go with the recount and the class.
To: Interesting Times
Yeah and if Landrieu wins in LA and Dashcle flips a couple of RINOs, Thune's "class" will have stabbed every voter, donor and volunteer across the country who worked so hard to create the GOP win.
To: tamikamaria
What assurance would Thune have that SD RINOs wouldn't vote for Daschole to have the minority leader continue to 'represent' them rather than replace him with a junior senator of questionable political acumen in 2004 particularly since they've already proved how anxious they have been to sell out their party in 2002 on a fool's gamble?
Sounds like Thune had better suck it up and make the most of whatever Senatorial opportunity may be at hand rather than demonstrate that he is as soft in the head as SD RINOs are in general.
To: RooRoobird14
"The main thing I'm concerned about here is a full investigation of alleged voter fraud--it they find it, it
needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I'm SICK of these crooked Scumocrats and
their ballot box stuffing."
If a dead Indian votes, is he still a "good" Indian?
