I've been debating whether or not to post this as I don't intend to open up a religous discussion on this thread. However, election time is drawing near, and our liberties are at stake. I've heard repeated calls on FR to get out and vote. I encourage that as well. Many have said that this election will depend on which party does better with their "get out and vote" methods. We must certainly do our best.

However, I would like to take it a step further. This election may be beyond our control, but we need to recognize that there is one who is sovereign over all.

I say this to suggest that we should be offering up a petition of prayer from now until the election is finalized. I also suggest fasting as a sign of the importance of this issue to yourself. I've started my fast. If you agree to pray and/or fast with me over this, reply to this message with an acknowlegement. I believe if enough people agree to do this diligently, great things will happen.

"Imagine all your life spent believing in an unreal deity. Instead of living life to the fullest, you live in a perpetual state of trying to keep yourself from having a good time lest you piss god off. Then you die. And there is nothing."

It must really suck to be you newbee, FYI I have been around the world seen that and did more than some turd like you can wish in your insignificant life.

and all this while honoring God, just because you have no vision other than living your so called life does not mean that one can not believe in God. your lack of perception of God is the standard noload thought of a God that is ready to smite someone because they are having a good time, get a life, get a new concept, or at least get a clue.

"God is a Republican."

Another bumper sticker I'd like to see. (With the nice little elephant on it too.)

No, a petition to God will not always save a life (much less influence an election or a football game).

Not all the prayers and tears in the world will ensure conception or return the warmth to a face grown cold.

That said, only God can bring forth Good from the natural evils that are the regular operation of this world's physical laws and the purposed evils that result from Man's abuse of his free will in contravening the natural moral law.

Contrary to the hedged bets of the pragmatists who think to use an abject evil for some anticipated "good" net result or the Calvinists who believe in a fiendish god who himself purposes evil as efficacious somehow to man ... it's actually for God alone to triumph over evil ... new flowers bursting forth in the death ash of some eruption or a man's stony heart softening sufficient to experience metanoia.

I have a hard time praying for the outcome, per se, of an election but I find nothing wrong in praying that some good will come ... whether it be a man's actually living by the personal convictions on which he campaigned and for which he was elected by trusting folks or that those I'd have preferred not win will stand up somehow for truth ... as with Wellstone's vote against abandoning the Constitution entirely and allowing the Executive branch not only the power to summarily execute anyone they consider to be a "terrorist" but to wage undeclared wars as they please.

Thanks. It came to me working for Alan Keyes a few years ago and when I decided to stop lurking and start interacting, it seemed right.

Us apes are patiently waiting for our next step in the evolutionary process..or any evidence that leads us to believe it will ever happen! LOL! (:o

Personally speaking, if the love, peace and joy I have now can be my own personal measuring stick - if what I no longer found enjoyment in (immorality, alcohol and drugs) were no better than what I now have (a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, God Himself), then I suppose I would agree with you.

Thank you. But, you have answered none of my questions.

Im sorry I couldnt answer your questions... God answered my prayers, however. ;)
