I've been debating whether or not to post this as I don't intend to open up a religous discussion on this thread. However, election time is drawing near, and our liberties are at stake. I've heard repeated calls on FR to get out and vote. I encourage that as well. Many have said that this election will depend on which party does better with their "get out and vote" methods. We must certainly do our best.

However, I would like to take it a step further. This election may be beyond our control, but we need to recognize that there is one who is sovereign over all.

I say this to suggest that we should be offering up a petition of prayer from now until the election is finalized. I also suggest fasting as a sign of the importance of this issue to yourself. I've started my fast. If you agree to pray and/or fast with me over this, reply to this message with an acknowlegement. I believe if enough people agree to do this diligently, great things will happen.

He very well could be allowing a slide to immorality as a vessel to mobilize his own to spread a word to those who need God most in their lives.

my problem with this is that it allows you to explain every permutation of events. it isn't so much a philosophy as a catch-all. it seems to me that the God most Christians believe in would surely have more efficient methods via which to bring about the desired ends.

"... if God's plan is to be carried out regardless, what does prayer do? are we hoping to convince God to change his opinion?"

Jesus directs us to pray and even gives us an example with "The Lord's Prayer." Praying is the same as talking. How can you claim to have a relationship with God if you don't talk with Him? Praying brings people closer to God and creates the most intimate relationship humanely possible. This relationship is what changes people outwardly.

"Another Vanity on Vanities" by Jim Robinson

"Please help us improve the news to noise ratio - post your rant as a reply rather than a vanity post" by Jim Robinson

"Vanity: Please help prevent the vanity explosion" by Jim Robinson

OMG! How many times and how many threads are you going to "police" and post this stuff...regardless of your personal statist pipe dreams and need to censor...there are people hired by JimRob called MODERATORS who do a good enough job of moderating the posts without your intervention. If you seek to have that job, send a resume to JimRob and move to Fresno. Your making a bigger mockery of yourself by policing vanity threads than you realize...as a matter of fact, you're moral-posting-high-ground is inviting people to post more and more vanity threads just to piss you off.

To quote sweetliberty from another thread (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/781596/posts) "Clinton Makes Entrance by Trash Dumpster" (sorry, but I couldn't get the link to work):

The Rats may be able to cheat us but they CAN'T cheat God. We need not pray to win, but that the integrity of the election is maintained in spite of all the fraud they're commiting for their own self-interests.

Amen to that, and prayers going up for this election and that God's will prevails.

"kind of like praying for one team to win a game."

I completely agree in refrence to praying for victory in a game-it is hard to believe that God could be so petty as to insert his power into such nonsense. What sincere Conservatives are praying for this time though, is no game-the most ferverent prayers are being uttered by those who have been sickened to the soul as they watch helplessly as a liberal Supreme Court empowered Government, has sanctioned the murder of a hundred thousand babies through abortion, under the guise of "a woman's right to choose."

If we cannot elect a pro-life majority to the Senate, that will pass and support a bill to ban the butchering of unborn humans, while we have a President who will sign such a bill- It will never happen, and this atrocity will reign for ever to the glory of Satan and his faithful imps in the Senate of the United States.

God is Love-Satan is hate-this election will reflect who is boss.

Thanks for the post, reminding us to vote and PRAY!

I'll vote, but y'all need to do the praying. for me to approach god only when I want something is rather childish IMO. I'd rather not know god at all than be a hypocrite. (not saying anyone else here is, just elaborating a bit on why I don't ask for intervention)

"I'm not really sure, since I have no basis for comparison. it probably appears very cynical relative to those who do. I personally don't think anyone (outside of the humans I surround myself with) is looking out for me on the whole, let alone worrying over who gets a senate majority.

I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands of people praying for democrat victories. so who gets the answer they want?"

In other words...pretty empty and barren.

What about the prayers of those that are not Christians?

I second that question.

Well, being an agnostic myself, mine start with "If anyone is listening..."

Dear Heavenly Father: We pray for the success of our candidates and causes, that You will help us and have mercy on us. Please forgive us for our sins and help us to be better people. We pray this in Jesus' Mighty Name. Amen.

catch-all

Catch all? Your probably right in the fact I dont have all the answers and neither do you. The very basis of God is faith. Faith is believing in something that cannot be viewed through a microscope.

I read the Bible from time to time (not enough as I should) and I take what it says seriously. As far as I know, scientists still havent disproved a single thing from the Bible.... I believe God will always prevail, in my life and in the lives I pray for.

Here is essentially what Jesus did:
I have a gun pointed to my head (sin), Jesus tapped the gunman on his shoulder and directed the gun barrel to his head and told the gunman to fire... THAT MEANS ALOT TO ME.

at least you admit that it is "blind".

Yes, my faith in God is a blind faith. I do not pretend to know what HE has in store for me, I just follow his rules and wait for his answers. I do ask for some things, but as the song says "some of God's greatest gifts, are unanswered prayers". I have to abide by what he chooses for me.

yet they condemn me frequently

It is not their place to condemn you, that is for God to decide when you face him on judgement day. "Judge not, lest ye be judged." Matthew 7:1

who would have me believe I'm going to hell because I left the church in order to avoid being an opportunist hypocrite.

The only one who can decide if you are going to hell is God. If you do not live the life that he asks you to live, and if you do not ask forgiveness for you sins, then you will be going there. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever liveth and believeth in him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3;16

The temple of God is not a building, it is your body. You should not abuse the temple. "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred and you are that temple." 1 Corinthians 3;16 & 17

You can still live for and believe in God even if you do not attend a church.

What if your preferred candidates lose? Does that mean God is against you and so you should switch parties? No it doesn't mean that at all. It means that He is answering our prayers in a different way, one that will ultimately benefit us all. God will provide for His faithful, like in Sadom/Gomorah, when Abraham ask God if he would spare SG if only one faithful was there. God provided for His faithful, but still destroyed SG. We don't know what God's plan is for the America (USA), but we do know what His plan is for each of us. No where in the Bible does it mention a great Nation who comes to the defense of Israel. It is written that Israel will stand against the world and be victorious.

As a country we are moving towards being another wicked country like SG, with abortion, homosexuality, porno, pedaephilia etc. This country cannot stand without the hand of God upon it.
