I can't believe my ears these days

I happen to live in the 5th (I think that's it, anyway) district of CT where, due to redestricting, we have two incumbent congressional candidates battling for one seat, Nancy Johnson, the republicrat, and this Maloney character, the democrat.

I don't watch TV any more, and I rarely read the newspaper, so most of my info on election 2002 comes from the blurbs I hear on my car radio going to and from where ever...

I'm usually tuned in to Rush, or Hannity's show on WABC from NY. Once in a while, when I'm out of range of that station, I listen to WTIC from Hartford, CT.

Lately I have been hearing Johnson's ads blasting Maloney's record on privatization of S.S., and prescription drugs benefits, education, and MFN status for China etc.

Of course you're thinking that she is pointing out how Maloney is against privatization of SS, for free prescription drugs, for trade with China, for more federal involvment in education, right?

LOL

Wrong! She is telling us that she wants to preserve S.S. by keeping it just the way it is, while Maloney wants to risk "your" future by privatizing SS and actually allowing people to control their own futures... that she wants to hand out free drugs, while Maloney has done nothing to push another hand out through congress... that she favors trade with a communist regime hell bent on vaporizing us someday, wants to increase federal control over education...

I had almost given in to the bombardment of "We need to elect Republicans at all cost!" propoganda that I receive via e-mail and this website every day. I was really tempted to say, "OK, just one more time, I will vote against my conscience, and cast my vote for the republicrats, and see if the JimRobs, and the Cultural Jihads are right. Maybe I am a moron and they really do know better.

Well that's out the window now... Nancy Johnson has done a great job of selling me on a 3rd party candidate this year. Well, not entirely her doing though...

I was directed, via propoganda mail, to the RNC website's new "Bash Daschle" video... Nightmare in the senate... outlining Daschle's unkept promises:

"Daschle PROMISED a prescription drug benefit, but didn't deliver..."

"Daschle PROMISED homeland security, but didn't deliver..."

What are they saying? They're saying they are in favor of a prescription drug benefit? At whose expense? Mine? I can't afford prescriptions for myself now, how can I pay for yours? WTF?

Since 9/11 and Bush's "homeland defense" thing, I have had the creeps... homeland defense sounds to much like Fatherland defense to me. We are supposed to have the best homeland defense system ever devised, an armed populace, but they have rendered our militia (defined here as armed civilians) impotent through gun control. Instead of creating another illegal federal agency, and possibly another illegal federal police department, why not just work hard to repeal the mountains of illegal "gun control" legislation, and begin promoting an armed citizenry?

Now I see my republicrat governor expressing support for a ballistic fingerprinting system. They're even jumping on that band wagon after the sniper attacks in DC. For once, I'd like to see one say what really needs to be said here. If the American people had not been intmidated into living defenselessly, and if the snipers had to actually fear being gunned down by an armed citizen during one of their attacks, the whole thing may never have happened in the first place.

But what bugs me most is that people like my republicrat govenor do nothing to counter the left wing media's characterizing the sniper's weapon of choice as a high powered sniper assault rifle or whatever they are calling it.

Anyone who knows anything about rifles knows that 1) it is not high powered, 2) it was the worst choice of rifle for thier type of crime, 3) any of the proposed fixes for this type of crime will do NOTHING to prevent a similar incident from occurring, 4)any antique bolt action rifle would have effected a higher kill ratio in these attacks... on and on... Why don't they confer with someone that knows something about guns before they spout off?

I'd love to hear a "leader" simple say "That's a bunch of baloney, and I won't even entertain such a silly idea!" when asked about their position on ballistic fingerprinting or other crazy gun control scheme. That guy would get my vote every time. Believe it or not, even dumb people want leaders who lead. Even dumb people want their leaders to take solid positions on issues. Leaders who entertain every silly idea brought forth by the media and other marxist organizations don't impress anyone.

I'm sick of it really.

I'm voting either Libertarian or Constitution party where ever possible this year. Where neither of the above are represented on the ballot, I will simply abstain from casting a vote. I refuse to endorse this crap for another second.

That should stir up a hornets nest. :)

I don't know why I even bothered to write this crap, since I have pretty much given up hope of restoring the Constitution in my lifetime. I've kind of settled into a reactionary posture, if that's the correct terminology.

I'm just sitting back and waiting for the slime ball politicians to really screw things up, and then I'll react accordingly in order to survive to resulting mayhem. :)

Good day folks!

While I won't pass judgement on your decision to vote 3rd party in all the races, I would suggest you reconsider this part: Where neither of the above are represented on the ballot, I will simply abstain from casting a vote.

Write yourself in, or someone else, just don't leave it blank. Remember the psychic ballot counters in Floriduh and "voter intent"? Don't let a no-vote turn into a vote for someone you don't want.

I think its pretty much impossible to reverse some trends. Basically once people are used to breaking the populace into factions and feeding from the public trough, they become addicted to such handouts. Trying to revoke them once initiated is like trying to take away heroin from a junky. The same goes for minimum wage and every other feel-good Democratic ploy. IMHO the only real solution is to wait for the inevitable collapse of our entire society as we realize we arent able to fund these emotional feel good programs anymore because we've destroyed the family and all motivation to work. Perhaps something worthwhile can be rebuilt from the shattered remnants of our nation once this collapse occurs.

I don't honestly think there's any other possibility.

There's a hell of a choice...Nancy Johnson, whose claim to fame is that she's the oldest member of Congress, and that big fat load of crap Jim Maloney, who I remember telling one of Mark Nielsen's campaign workers that he looked like he had a stick up his @ss.

I thought you and I had this conversation in 2000, where your advice was to move as soon as possible. Why are we both still here?

I recently travelled to Meadville, Pennsylvania, just outside of Erie, where it became clear to me quite quickly that Connecticut is so NOT THE REAL WORLD that it's not funny.

In Meadville, men argue about Ford trucks vs. Chevy and the gun department at Wal*Mart is bigger than the bottom floor of my house. And the reason that that idiot is going to win for governor is that it's time for a Democrat to get into office, and he just happens to be a Democrat.

There's no question that these are not good times to be a conservative, as the RINO mushheads have clearly taken over the party. Witness the exit of such conservative icons as Phil Graham and Dick Armey, and it doesn't bode well for us.

Just hang in there and laugh, though, because there's not much else to do.

The good news is that we OWN the West...we should all move to Nevada or Arizona.

I am about to embark on a new manufacturing venture. I know that I can get so many concessions and gifts and tax abatements and on and on to do it here in Connecticut. There is a ZERO percent chance that I would consider it. ZERO. There isn't enough money in this state to get me to stay here. I'll let you know where we end up.

Just to be clear...Maloney shouted to one of Mark's campaign workers outside a polling place..."Hey, you look like you have a stick up your @ss."

Before you say we should move to Nevada, check out the demographic trends. Las Vegas is becoming a hot bed of liberalism and will over power
the rest of the state in a few years.

Nah. Nevada is not your typical liberal-type state. It's not pretty enough.

I had the same thought when I heard the Johnson spot on the radio. There aren't too many places outside the Northeast that this would that happen! You have the candidates trying to out-RAT each other. Pragmatism works up to a point, but at some point convictions will take over.

That said, I haven't made my mind up yet. While there is virtually no difference between the candidates in most of the races and I disagree with them on many issues, I may end up holding my nose AGAIN and vote for the R(inos) if for no other reason than to keep the democRATs from gaining control. Especially when it comes to the control effecting the national picture.

I don't know why I even bothered to write this crap, since I have pretty much given up hope of restoring the Constitution in my lifetime. I've kind of settled into a reactionary posture, if that's the correct terminology.

Thank you for writing it. It's a sentiment shared by many of us here. I've pretty much given up on New England as far as politics go. The voter pool has been diluted by enough liberals with money, fleeing the metropolitan areas, thus infecting the electorate, that I'm not sure a Conservative will ever have a snowball's chance in hell of ever getting elected here or anywhere else in New England. That combined with the democRAT dominated cities going straight down the $hitter and the directly related increase in the "Gimme, gimme" electorate that comes with it, all but guarantees RAT control for the foreseeable future.

If not for deep family ties over the past few centuries, I'd have pulled up the anchor years ago. So I'm stuck and I'll try to do my best with what we have to work with. Sometimes the "He/She's marginally better than the alternative" is all we can, and will ever be able to, hope for. Such is life in the Constitution Constipation State.

Perhaps something worthwhile can be rebuilt from the shattered remnants of our nation once this collapse occurs.

Or perhaps not...Therein lies the rub, and while you'll likely think I have my head in the sand, here, I persist in thinking that:

A) One must first be elected to office before one can effect change...

B) Until a real "firebrand" third party candidate with a significant grass-roots base is able to translate this into a national following, this will not be possible (think Perot and Nader)...

C) Voting for third party candidates in State/National elections will almost always result in a "split vote" between the two most compatible candidates, thus assuring election of and representation by the candidate most in opposition.

IMHO, the "inevitable" for the moment is (for example) "prescription drugs for seniors"...this issue can be addressed by Republicans, "RINO's", or Democrats, (or Bernie Sanders...the currently sitting "third party candidate!) but it will need to be addressed one way or the other. I would far prefer even a "RINO" plan to a liberal Democrat (or Socialist) plan, if plan we must...for one thing, the odds are much better that it will not be written in stone, and for another thing, I'm unconvinced that if the US is turned into "shattered remnants of [a] nation", it would be possible in this day and age to rebuild it...

Well said, "live from Connecticut"! ;)

(our choices in "fly-over country" are not so difficult, I expect...or at least, not in the same way...although believe or not, I'll have to hold my nose to vote for "our Republican House candidate"...he's awful, but "Dennis!" is worse!! Some stalwart ought to move here and run, *please*!!)

Homeland defense sounds to much like Fatherland defense to me.

It wasn't Fatherland defense. It was, indeed, Heimatsicherheitsdienst. Brought to you by that paragon of Republican virtue, Heinrich Himmler.

Now do you believe there's a conspiracy?

I do think you are misunderstanding the RNC's message. They are making the point to the voters that lil Tommy did not live up to his campaign promises. That does NOT mean they are for his programs, just that he LIED to the voters.

That is probably what your local pubbie is trying to point out also, that rats don't deliver on their promises and they are just using people.
