Reno, Meek sue to keep GOP poll watchers away

MIAMI -- Alleging that the Republican Party is resorting to dirty tricks to intimidate voters, Janet Reno and U.S. Rep. Carrie Meek filed suit Thursday to prevent a Republican political-action committee from stationing more than 450 poll watchers at heavily Democratic precincts in Miami-Dade County polls on Election Day.

The suit, filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court, names Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections David Leahy, the county's Republican Party and the Emergency Committee to Stop Bill McBride as defendants.

"The emergency is they want to create disruptions at the polls," said Joe Geller, counsel for the Miami-Dade Democratic Executive Committee.

Alleging that the Republican Party is resorting to dirty tricks to intimidate voters

The nerve of those wascally wepublicans--they want to intimidate voters by ensuring that all voters are actually registered in the venue where they are voting, that they are not felons, that they only vote once, and that they are actually alive. Oh, the horror!

Republicans are exclusive, just as the Democrats accuse them of being.

Republicans want to exclude non-registered/non-citizen voters, per U.S. electoral law.

Democrats, inclusive pricks that they are, want to include illegals, felons, unregistered persons of dubious residential status, the dead...

"When is Reno going to shake herself to death, the hag!"

It'll be like Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep at the end of "Death Becomes Her".

Hi J.

I volunteered to do poll watching for the Republicans in the last Presidential election. Saw many amazing abuses and reported them.

One really bizaar thing is the locals had a poll set up in a popular tavern ... very strange, thought that was a violation in itself.

I saw many incidents of people showing up and claiming a right to vote 'out of their area.' Some didn't have the registration card, and only had a sample ballot with their old address afixed by a mailing label.

These people all claimed they had just moved and demanded to vote. The rules allowed them to vote immediately with a provisional ballot. Supposedly, an inquiry might take place to verify the vote was legitimate. No one was demanding identitication! Really bizaar .... !

At another polling place I observed the poll authorities were checking identification .... They turned away several of the "I just moved" types.

I contacted the Republican Hdq. and told them what I had observed. Asked them "How easy would it be to pick up hundreds of sample ballots and slap a mailing address lable on it?"

There were complaints of very serious voting fraud filed by California Republicans ..... the DemonRATS and experts in voting fraud and we must put a stop to it.

I think meek and reno are afraid the Republicans will frighten all those dead people, so they will stay at home in their graves and not exercise their right to vote.<>/p>

It's so much easier to doctor the ballots without those pesky Republicans hanging around.

Glad you posted this -- it's a real study in the absurd.

"We played by the rules," said Benedick Kuehne, co-counsel for Miami-Dade's Democrats. "The Republican Party decided they didn't like the rules so, under the cover of darkness, they got a secret opinion from the secretary of state."

Someone should call Benedick and, first, tell him it's spelled B-e-n-e-d-i-c-t (as in Arnold and Jeffords), and second, that if he's truly concerned, he should arm himself and his goons with video cameras and go tape the proceedings.

Scared 'Rats! With eighteen missing voting machines--it will be slightly more difficult to pull the switch with so many eyes watching.

I sure hope the poll watchers will follow the voting machines to their appropriate destinations Tuesday evening, and that they survive to tell about it. Prayers for the poll watchers!

And then get ahold of Shakespeare, so he can change the name of the male lead in Much Ado About Nothing. :)
