A Dispatch from the Front, Plus a Few Words About Norwegian Charisma
321st Weekly Report ov Congressman Billybob ^ | 28 October 2002 | J. Armor, Esq. (aka Congressman Billybob)

In most of America's wars there was a "Front" (or several "Fronts") where the killing occurred and the outcomes were decided. Then there was the"Home Front," where the civilian population worked hard to support the men and women in uniform and make their own contributions to the victory.

This war is different. Because the attacks are against American civilians in their homes and cities, there is only one front. It is like the American Revolution and the Civil War, in which Americans died at home as the war was fought. So this is a Dispatch from the Front, even though it comes from the Mall in Washington, D.C.

I have looked into the face of the enemy, and they are determined that we should die. I have looked into the faces of survivors of attacks, and they are bloody but unbowed. I did both of these things without leaving the Mall.

First, a description of the enemy. Communists, socialists, and assorted fascists including Muslim apologists, were the organizers and promoters of the A.N.S.W.E.R. Rally on the Mall on Saturday. This "Anti-War" Rally claimed to be against racism and against war. It was actually pro-racism – the "Free Mumia" crowd was active and vocal. These are people who believe a black criminal who executed a white cop in Philadelphia should be freed, rather than executed.

Their opposition to war was equally hypocritical. As long as the right people get killed – and those are "American imperialists" -- then acts of war are entirely justified. It is only those who seek to respond to the murder of Americans who are "committing acts of war."

Supporters claimed that 50,000 people demonstrated against the war. Honest numbers were about 30,000. I took time to talk personally – one by one – to two dozen of the rank and file people from the other Rally. The vast majority were, as I said in my first speech, "college sophomores, regardless of age or college status." They had a severe case of the "sophomore stupids." In all fairness, I had a case of that when I was a sophomore – not as bad as they, and mine didn't last as long. But it was the same disease.

Some of these "students" actually had a smattering of facts, and their minds were not closed to the addition of more facts – which might lead them to better understanding of geo-politics in general and war in particular. Then there was another large group whose minds were largely fact-free. They were simply rebelling against their parents – and all other authority which stood in loco parentis. The women had a tendency to wear enough nose, lip (and presumably other) pierced rings to attract lightning.

I saw one man who typified this group, and wished I'd had a camera to capture his picture. He was the 1960s, redux. He was about 25, with a scraggly beard, wearing a black T-shirt with the message: "F**K WAR." He had a guitar hung on his back. I wanted to repeat for him Arlo Guthrie's line from the song (and movie) Alice's Restaurant. "If you want to end war ‘n' things, you gotta sing loud." But I was reasonably sure that the irony of the comment would have been far beyond his comprehension.

In the rebellions of youth, each one thinks he/she is doing something new and daring. None have the perspective to know that Herodotus described them accurately, in Latin, 2,000 years ago.

The real faces of the enemy were the people on stage. They gave the impression that all they were dealing in was ideas and free speech. An indication of how poorly they either understood free speech or respected it, was the four times their minions sought to invade and shut down our Patriots Rally II. The Park Police, including their Mounted Patrol, did an admirable job of turning those efforts aside. Only three of the raiders failed to get the patient message of the Police and therefore earned themselves a trip to the station in a paddy wagon.

No, the face of the enemy, the people who want us and our society dead, were at the microphones. I mention in particular Ramsey Clark, former Attorney General of the United States, and now an active fascist and either hard socialist or soft communist, it's hard to tell which. He appeared on C-SPAN the morning after the rallies. The first call-in question to him asked why he made an issue of the dying Iraqi children while Saddam Hussein was spending available money on his 19 palaces and his war machine. Clark answered by talking about children in Bosnia, by claiming that Saddam did not stay in his palaces due to possible assassination, and by telling the caller "you are deceived."

Check the tapes. I am not making this up. His goal is to sound rational while lying through his teeth. Clark's position is that dead people, either American or Iraqi, are useful as long as the national socialism of Hussein's Baath Party are promoted. He is no different from the American apologists for national socialism in Germany, before America entered the war against them under their more familiar name, Nazis.

The other enemy I'll mention is Lynn Stewart, who claims to be a civil rights lawyer from New York City. She was the counsel for the Sheik who was convicted and jailed for masterminding the 1993 bombing at the World Trade Center. She has now been arrested and charged with smuggling messages out of the prison to aid the Sheik in planning and carrying out additional murders of Americans. As I understand the evidence, the FBI has her on tape bragging about concealing her messages for murder operation behind the facade of the lawyer-client relationship.

In her speech to the assembled sophomores, Ms. Stewart claimed she had been targeted for her politics, and that the government was trying to cut off legal representation of Muslims accused of crimes. That is, of course, total bullsh*t. Any lawyer who engages in planning the murders of Americans is a criminal – not a counsel – and on conviction should be jailed until the teeth rot out of his/her head. She, too, wants Americans to die, because she sees that as a desirable and politically necessary to the downfall of the American democratic republic.

It was so pathetic that the fools in the audience for the A.N.S.W.E.R. Rally did not have a clue that they were listening to some people who would kill them without compassion or compunction, given the opportunity.

On the other side, I looked into the faces of victims of the war that is already going on. When we arrived for our Rally in support of the US government, we found that a group of anti-Saddam Iraqis were across the street for their own rally. They had no stage, no microphone, and few people were paying attention to them. We invited them to join us. Two of their leaders, one an Imam, spoke from our stage. That meant that their words, in both English and Arabic, were carried on the C-Span feed from our Rally to the few Americans who were still up at 2 a.m. Eastern, when our Rally was broadcast on C-SPAN 2.

I spoke to several of these men, including one man whose five brothers were all killed by Saddam Hussein. Almost all of the Iraqis who joined our Rally had had family members killed, and others jailed and never heard from again, by the dictatorship in Iraq. Hussein has held absolute power in Iraq for 34 years. His war against his own people has already gone on for that long. These brave people were casualties of that war. These people were the voice of truth from inside Iraq. (Almost all the adult Iraqis in this group were born there. Their children, who were with them, are Americans.)

But the enemy was not just at the microphones of the "Anti-War" Rally. They were also in the newsrooms of the American media. C-SPAN carried the words of hate and death from the other Rally, live when they were delivered, and reran them in prime time later in the day. They did not carry the words of truth and freedom, our Rally, until 2 a.m. The coverage by the Washington Post was equally atrocious. They gave short shrift to our side of the "debate." They did zero homework into the finances of the other side.

We paid the minimal costs of our Rally from our own pockets. But who paid for the hundreds of thousands of dollars for the elaborate sound system and stages for the other Rally? For the 350 buses from all parts of the country? For the offices, phones and staff to gather up the useful fools to assemble on the Mall and be lied to? As Deep Throat said to Woodward and Bernstein of Watergate fame, "Follow the money."

We know from history that Nazi money poured into America First, the largely German-American effort which sought to keep America out of the war against the Nazis. It is a simple question to research and answer whether money from Islamo-fascists, and from Saddam Hussein himself, poured into the "Anti-War" Rally in Washington, on Saturday. Is the American press not asking this basic question because it fears what the answer will be?

Another indication that the American press is part of the face of the enemy is the coverage last week of two situations – the snipers near D.C., and the takeover of the theater in Moscow. I listened to more than two hours of coverage on each subject, on both CNN and National Public Radio, last week. Never on either network with respect to either issue did I hear the word "Muslim" mentioned.

I'm not the first to notice this press bigotry in avoiding an important and relevant fact. Mark Steyn, a Canadian living in the US and reporting here, in England and Canada, had an excellent column last week in the Detroit Free Press on this subject.

The older sniper, John Muhammad, is a Muslim convert, with ties to Al Qaeda through Camp Ground Zero in Alabama. The radical Islam Sheik in England who was involved in setting up Camp Zero is now on trial in London. In the sniper investigation, authorities got and executed search warrants on Ground Zero for its connections to John Muhammad. Again, is our press afraid to tell us the truth for fear of how we will respond to it?

The same applies in the coverage of the Moscow hostage crisis, where Muslim terrorists held about 750 people in a theater – people mostly from Moscow, but including citizens of about a dozen nations. The terrorists released children and Muslims from the theater at the beginning. The terrorists were in telephone contact with Muslim embassies in Moscow, and also made calls to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates during the siege. Also some of the terrorists were from Yemen and Saudi Arabia. This was a pan-Muslim operation.

Anyone could find these facts out by digging deep into the international coverage of the theater siege. But no one could get any of these facts from the coverage of this disaster on either CNN or NPR. Seldom does the American press flat-out lie to the American people by presenting as fact a statement that is false. Even in the pre-arrest coverage of the sniper the press was careful to note that it was only a theory that the snipers were "angry, white, (presumably Christian) males," whereas they turned out to be angry, black, Muslim males.

However, it is unfortunately common that our press lies to us by concealing facts. CNN and NPR lied to us by concealing the heavy Muslim connections of the snipers and of the Moscow terrorists. These two networks were not the only offenders, but they were among the worst and most consistent in this lie by omission.

The whole point of having a free press as guaranteed by the Constitution, is to get the facts out in front of the American people, so that we the people in our judgment can decide the policies we want our government to follow. This is always important, but it is especially important when our lives and the lives of our children are on the line in time of war.

Why are major elements of the press lying to us now about the anti-American Muslims? Are they so cynical as lying to protect their editorial positions in opposition to the policies of our government? Are they concealing facts from us so we will not support our government, which we would do with the truth in front of us?

Does this make the press traitors or killers? No. But does this make the press one more part of the "front" in this war where we must fight? Absolutely. All of us who dig deep into the coverage of major stories -- not trusting just one, or two or three sources for a story -- need to attack the American press. We need to beat them over the head with facts. We need to shame them into doing their job. We need to force them to tell the truth, even if, or especially if, they do not like the truth.

Well, that's my first Dispatch from the Front.

A Few Words About Norwegian Charisma

This week, the Democrats took one more step toward becoming the party of the dead, by the dead and for the dead, by hauling out of mothballs yet another politically dead politician, hoping to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in the Senate race in Minnesota. Fritz Mondale, who was once second banana to Jimmy Carter, will now be propped up and wheeled forward to become (possibly) second banana to Li'l Tommy Daschle.

Mondale, a long-retired Senator, a Vice President under Jimmy Carter, and then a magnificently failed candidate for President in his own right – legendary for his "Norwegian charisma" as his running mate said – will enter the Senate race in Minnesota. He will replace Paul Wellstone, the Democrat incumbent who was killed last week in a plane crash with two members of his family and five others.

One of the shortest and best descriptions of the essence of any politician, was made of Fritz Mondale by his fellow Minnesotan, Gene McCarthy (whom I count as a friend and colleague). McCarthy said,

"Fritz Mondale has the soul of a Vice President."

The description applies perfectly in the present circumstance. If Mondale sneaks in as the new Senator from Minnesota, he will have two tasks – breathe, and do whatever Senator Daschle says. Other than the name of his boss, that is exactly what he did under President Carter. It is telling that Majority Leader Daschle showed up in Minnesota at the Wellstone Campaign Headquarters before the bodies of the Senator and his family were even cold. In that "campaign" appearance, Daschle touted Mondale as the "right choice for Minnesota,"

Daschle holds his job as Majority Leader by one vote. If Norm Coleman had defeated Paul Wellstone, Daschle would likely have lost his job. If Fritz Mondale can ride a tide of sympathy votes and Metamucil and defeat Coleman, Daschle might get to keep his job.

Daschle doesn't give a rat's patoot about what is "right for Minnesota." But he is hard-wired to think -- morning, noon and night – about what is right for Li'l Tommy Daschle. So he wants a toady from Minnesota who might win the Senate seat there. Enter Fritz Mondale, who is a toady's toady. After all, he has the "soul of a Vice President."

For the sake of Minnesota and of the nation, this is one retread I hope winds up on the side of the electoral highway like the slabs of rubber thrown from 18-wheelers on the interstate. The nation is in hard times here. It just isn't wise to trust the government to leaders who are dead, either physically or politically. And the same applies to Daschle himself. Here's the suggested title for his biography, "It Came from Beyond the Senate."

Just one tiny nit to pick with an otherwise fine article: Herodotus wrote in Greek (since he was a Greek) and he wrote his "Histories" around 440 BC.

Thank you for the correction. Since I write from memory (I ain't getting paid for these columns, ulike my UPI and Washington Times stuff, I make mistakes. And I have full confidence that every error I make will be caught by a sharp FReeper.

My quick thinking was, the name ends in "us" so he has to be Roman, and 2,000 years ago is a fair guess on when he wrote. I think I'll leave the error there and see whether anyone else catches it.

Cordially,

Billybob

Never on either network with respect to either issue did I hear the word "Muslim" mentioned.

...and therein lies the problem. Someone told me that wanting to execute the snipers was bad, that we needed to keep them alive to study them to find out what was going on. My answer was "We know what's going on: islam!"

The press is, again, willfully lying by omission, and is, IMO, therefore complicit in a virtual coverup of the connection with islam as the explaination for all of this. What can they possibly think they are accomplishing? People MUST realize that islam is all about hate and death, or they will be easy targets! Look how many Israeli's die at the hands of islam each year, and THEY are AWARE!

How much more vulnerable are we because the press, unwilling or unable to get off the stupidity of political correctness (or whatever other assinine misconception drives them), is setting us up for islam attack by with-holding information?

I sure like living in a CCW state! Stay vigilent, stay armed, and don't trust any muslims (even, or especially, if they are your neighbors)!

Thanks for the column, CBB.

It was great that you were there and helped welcome the Iraqis. But the late night C-Span showing, after even repeating anti-war protestor scenes was disgusting.

But who paid for the hundreds of thousands of dollars for the elaborate sound system and stages for the other Rally? For the 350 buses from all parts of the country? For the offices, phones and staff to gather up the useful fools to assemble on the Mall and be lied to?

Excellent point that has not/will not be raised by the major media.

The nation is in hard times here. It just isn't wise to trust the government to leaders who are dead, either physically or politically.

Right, Mondale IS a washed-up antique of a yes-man, perfect for Daschle. Let's hope he doesn't fall dead of old age, that would be 3 deaths the demented Dems would rack up to Bush and the GOP.

Communist News Network and National Proletarian Radio? Who'd a thunk it?

Dashole gives not a rats ass what is best for anyone else but himself, and he's taking orders. As we all realize, Mondale has returned from 1984 not to represent the people, but "in response to his calling".

Unlike Senator Mink, this "situation" called for immediate action - Bill's secret cell number. After a few conference calls, some bribes, discussion of the grandchildren, less than two hours later a new candidate was "born" and a campaign was being developed.

Back to the late Senator Wellstone we find a grieving family and many Leftist politicians who simply want to put the campaign aside for a few days, even if Coleman lacks similar respect and refuses to do the same.

On the crime scene it has been learned that the possibility of assassination is being probed, but the Leftists do not want to make a lot of publicity of that until more facts break.

The day following Senator Wellstone's death proves to be no less painful, yet the Leftists, regardless of Coleman's approach, are unwilling to select a replacement nominee and make plans to proceed until the funeral arrangements and burial have taken place. The tragedy has taken so much strength from the widow who hopes the voters will support Pauls replacement because, "He would have wanted it that way".

Thanks Congressman!

I am not so sure that the reason that so few conservatives feel the need to rally is because we all have jobs, et al. I think it has more to do with the fact that a teacher has to respect the ability of a student to learn, and the ANSWER mob really were a pack of morons.

That is why the best part of the event was the calm, compassionate, conservative "Mr. Rogers" style explanation Kristenn gave of why it is justifiable for people to go war to defend freedom. He really had their happiness at heart, and he very kindly explained to them that living in peacecful slavery was not in their best interest...That and the part about killing people and breaking their toys...

I don't think so.

I think they don't ask the question because they know what the answer will be!

I'm not sure which is a correct description of these despicable louts: "useful idiots" or "fellow-travelers"? Probably either would suffice.

There is a big difference between incompetence or stupidity and criminal intent. I think a huge portion of these newspeople fall in the latter category.
