Chechen Guerrilla Says No Plans to Free Hostages
October 25, 2002 05:33 PM ETANKARA, Turkey (Reuters) - One of the Chechen guerrillas holding hundreds of hostages in a Moscow theater said Friday they had no intention of freeing more of their captives.
The guerrilla, speaking by telephone to Reuters in Ankara from within the theater, said the outcome of the hostage-taking that began Wednesday evening depended entirely on whether Russia agreed to withdraw its forces from Chechnya.
"We have freed everyone we could free. Thanks be to Allah we have freed the Englishmen and the Azeris too. We have nothing against foreigners," said the rebel, who would not identify himself. "We have no intention of freeing anyone else."
"What happens now depends on Russia's leadership, on what agreement it can reach with our senior representatives."
Earlier, the rebels said they were demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya.
My gut feeling. This isn't going to be a pretty ending.
I hope I'm wrong.
Who makes the rules for this game? Do they examine the entrails of a goat?
Evidently yes. But, they're not allowed to call terrorists... Terrorists.
Perhaps gorrillas would be more appropriate?
