H. Carl McCall's Democratic gubernatorial campaign got a much-needed boost yesterday as former President Bill Clinton stumped for him at a Manhattan rally and then hosted a fund-raiser on Wall Street to replenish McCall's near-empty campaign war chest.
At the rally at a church in the Dominican stronghold of Washington Heights, Clinton told the crowd that the bad fiscal policies of Republicans in Washington made it all the more important to elect McCall, the state comptroller.
"He knows how to keep the books," Clinton said. "He'll take care of your money and send it where it ought to be sent."
Reminding the crowd that he had been Arkansas' governor, Clinton said, "When the economy is in bad shape, it's more important to have a good governor." He continued with a comment that sounded like a swipe at McCall's Republican opponent, Gov. George Pataki, by saying: "If the economy is in good shape and people have got plenty of money, well then the Legislature gives it out and the governor can have a lobotomy and be popular."...

boy, is THAT a loaded statement
methinks the real title should be, " Bill Clinton Boots McCall".
He and sinator hillary! knew the race was over before it began.
Can you say "pander", sinator hillary! and IMPEACHED ex-42?
I fully expect the IRS to revoke the church's 503 (c)(3) status.
Yeah, right
Does this have anything to do with cigars?
What the %@#*^&?!! does that mean? Tell me could any Republican say something like this and not be pillored by the Democrats, the press, and the Latinos the very next day?
Hmmm... interesting that the article doesn't mention Terry McAullife's stance on campaign cash for McCall. An excerpt from this^:
With Mr. McCall trailing Gov. George E. Pataki by at least 11 points in recent polls and his campaign starved for cash, the party chairman, Terry McAuliffe, said he had little choice but to direct the party's limited pool of money into races where Democrats have better prospects. Mr. McAuliffe's remarks were the clearest public signal that leading Democrats have lost faith in Mr. McCall's chances in the election, which is less than two weeks away.
"I've got to put the resources where we can win elections," Mr. McAuliffe said at a lunch with reporters and editors of The New York Times.
Mr. McAuliffe also said that with the elections approaching, his top priorities were defeating Gov. Jeb Bush in Florida and helping Senator Jean Carnahan, Democrat of Missouri, defend her seat.
Mr. McAuliffe did not rule out pumping more money to the McCall campaign. But he said he would do so only if Mr. McCall, the state comptroller, narrowed the gap in the polls to between six and seven points behind Governor Pataki.
Gee, I wonder how THE SCUMBAG & The Hildebeaste feel about this? It was just about a month ago that they crapped all over Andrew Cuomo and backed McCall. Perhaps there is justice afterall.
An obvious misquote...
"He knows how to cook the books," Clinton said.
Coming from Clinton, I take that as a threat.
