The weapon is pistol like the Thompson Contender which has .223 barrels. I have seen average shooters kill wild turkeys with at 200 yards with a TC .223 with a good scope.
After they shoot, the TC goes into a Camel Bak hydration back pack which about 90% of bike riders carry. He/she/it is dressed in normal biking clothes and has a mountain bike. With his Camel Bak, bike helmet and biking clothes he fits no profile of a guy with a long gun and in a white van.
He goes in the opposite direction of the decoy white van to meet their helper. It is a regula looking car with a bike rack. As the biker/sniper approaches, the driver pops the trunk open and the Camel Bak with the TC is put in the trunk and the mountain bike on the rack and locked in. They drive the opposite way of the decoy white van.
Or if the sniper works alone, he just rides his bike away and looks like hundreds of other bike riders.

"He/They hide rifle in culvert, ditch, etc. and go back and get it later."That's a little hard to swallow. As thoroughly as LE appears to be going over these crime scenes, I would think a weapon stashed that way would be easily found. JMO

Traveling to a predetermined pick up point where the bike is stashed in a van or truck... They are turning vans and trucks inside out right now. I think anything like that would set of red flags.

Right. They released a BOLO for a specific plate # this morning. What else is the media not telling us?

Put in a backpack like the ones used to carry paintball guns...remember FReeper Dossee recounting a siting of a guy on a bicycle with a weapon sticking out of a backpack? He was seen around the area of the Home Depot murder (before the attack).
Until all this started happening, we thought nothing of seeing kids in the neighborhood with their paintball stuff cycling by on the way to the latest game...

OK, but in the bicycle theory, what happens to the weapon? Weapon? I put in sack! Is not difficult!

"Weapon? I put in sack! Is not difficult!"LOL....Thanks, I needed a good laugh.

I would think a weapon stashed that way would be easily found. That's why I'm thinking the weapon must be in plain sight, but nobody notices because it's normal for whomever they impersonate to carry such a weapon.

Hi there, Fred Mertz! Thank you for the welcome!!! I've followed "John H K" posts for some time now, so I wouldn't expect him to agree with me. But that's plenty okay because Free Republic is best when all views are on the table!
I'm surprised how little evidence is shared with the public to date.
If my suspicions are in the "ballpark" then I would expect most of the information to be withheld - because it would be one of those covert battles that must be waged in a war on terrorism.

The only problem with your "decoy vehicle" and "gun in the trunk" scenario is that there is a risk of being seen by random people at or near the scene. As I said earlier on this thread, even the most meticulously planned attack can't possibly account for something as unforeseen as a barking dog, a car broken down in the road on the escape route, etc.

I've tried to explain to people on another site that a TC or XP would be easily concealable in a woman's purse; even with a bipod. A TC with Bipod can be broken down/folded into a small package, and the people I shoot with have competitions to 500 meters. I, of course, provide comic relief instead of competition, but even I do well enough to 200 meters with an open-sighted south-american budget wheelgun.

" He is showing that he is truly psychotic "
Agreed. I believe that the shooter specifically aimed at the Ponderosa victim's stomach area. A full stomach exploding all over the abdominal cavity, is a surgical nightmare. I think the shooter knew this and and wanted to insure that the victim suffered horribly, if he was lucky enough to survive the initial operation. Yesterday, I didn't understand why they swarmed the phone booth and tipped their hand-why didn't they just follow the van and pick it up-away from the eyes of the public and media? The only reason I can think of, is that this guy has threatened a lot more than we are aware of-schools come to mind and LE was desperate. And now he has shown that he can pick off someone on the steps of a bus or a school bus.Very sobering developments.

And if so, how much of a problem would it be for the shooter to aim accurately?

I don't disagree with your take on America, it's just that I don't see what more the police could do in light of the fact that a sniper is operating over a fifty square mile area. This is a tough one.
