For over a week, I thought terrorist, but now with the risky behaviour, ransom, calling cards, taunting notes, voice changer, etc... it does sound to me like a person playing out crime novels for real.I hadn't thought of that but I think you are right! You pick up a lot of information from police procedurals and this guy seems well-informed.

This was criminal behavior on those in charge of the investigation, if they feel that those notes left behind even have a 10% validity. So your remark below is exactly correct:
He and whomever else is making decisions on the taskforce decided yesterday NOT to tell the public after they received the note from the sniper Saturday night that the sniper had threatened to kill children!! How dare they put childen's lives at stake simply because the sniper says don't tell the media!!
The Richmond School System may have saved the lives of children by closing the schools when they heard about this.

Your correct, however in a Constitutional Republic, the people would shoot these terrorists dead before it got out of hand.
A well regulated Militia necessary for the security of a Free State, the Right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Sometimes just plain old whack job killers get lucky and avoid capture. Yeah, but plain old whack job killers aren't as sexy as ME terrorists. See, everything has to be ME terrorist related, because Islam is a Religion of Peace, yada yada yada. Plus which, if it's really ME terrorists, we can all be at war, which allows us to strike heroic poses and say brave-sounding things.
Yesterday, one media outlet (MSNBC?) reported that the ME terrorists had left tarot cards at more than one of the shooting locations.
I've always thought it was a nutjob, and none of these shootings has given me any reason to change my views on the matter. The tarot cards are intriguing, in that they could be a hint that this is the long-sought Zodiac Killer, or perhaps a copycat of same.

Oh come on, it's OBVIOUSLY the Portland cell because they wanted to go halfway across the country to "get" Chief Moose, who they magically knew would be in charge of the investigation. The first murders were in his county. You don't think they could have known what jurisdication he moved on to after Portland?

Life continues, but adjustments will be made. I still stand up straight when I pump gas... I just don't stop at gas station withing sight line to trees/cover/park. I'll bet downtown gas stations are doing great business with commuters.>>>>>>>>
My thoughts too.......We cannot allow 1 or 19 terrorists
to bring Americans, or the USA to it's knees.....

Forgive me for asking this but is it true that the latest victim, a man shot this morning on a bus, has died?

I have to agree with SCR1 on this.
Someone willing to commit these crimes would not be worried about violating mere firearms laws regarding allowable non-NFA configurations.
The shooter's weapon could potentially be both short-barrelled & select-fire. Full auto for when the SHTF and short-barrelled for concealability.

I have to admit that my behavior would change if this were happening in my neighborhood. Not out of concern for my safety, but in an attempt to put the perp out of commission.
Any DC-area Freepers who own retail businesses -- please Freep-mail me for a good suggestion.

OK, but I know that I'm going to get flamed and on top of that I have to get some work done so I wont be able to respond.
1. I think this guy is a functional paranoiac. I draw this conclusion just because the history of most snipers seem to fit this pattern. ie. Charles Whitman, Amalia Castillo, James Huberty. All felt like society was out to get them and they lashed back with different degrees of skill.
2. He has had some form of military or police training. Assassin types tend to fantasize and then react based on their ability. Therefore I think he could be either ex-military or an ex-cop.
3. I think he is divorced and has at least one child. He could be taking weekends off because he has custody of his kid(s) on the weekends. I still stand by this despite the Saturday shooting. It could be a case that he just didn't have his kid(s) that weekend.
4. I think he is employed in some fashion. His job is one that allows him to be very mobile and solitary. This job would suit him because he is a social isolate. This also would minimize the amount of contact with co-workers who might notice that he fits the profile of the sniper.
5. He has had some kind of stressor in late September that finally set him off. Maybe, his wife finally left him because he was becoming too wierd and or abusive. Maybe he was already divorced and he just lost custody of his kid(s) to where he cant see them as often. At any rate something happened that disrupted the stability of his life which was the only thing that was preventing him from acting on his "fantasies".
Flame away. I'll read on later this evening to see how bad I get beat up here.

Information is a dangerous weapon ..if anything a Black out should limit any more press conferences. Unless the police deem it necessary.
To: contessa machiaveli
i don't want to appear racist, but this isn't the MO of a black person.I know what you mean. There's something that says "white man" about these crimes.
