If there was more than one shot whos is to say that maybe one of the bus drivers took shot into the air or at the woods to scare off the perp and to let him know he is prepared to fight back.
To: spectre
The media should shut-up about school busses, they are giving this guy some ideas..geeze.Yes, they are. My first thought when I saw that was, "Shut up, already!"

If you are in the DC area, don't try to commute on any major roads if you don't have to! I left my house in Northern Virginia at 6:30. It took me ONE HOUR on 495 in Virginia to get from the Dulles Toll Road overpass to Rte. 193 (about 1.5 miles). I was trying to get to the GW Parkway to go to Crystal City. I ended up back at my house after 2 hours on the road! This is worse than a snowstorm! Again, if you don't have to go out, don't. It's a nightmare out there and the backup will take hours to dissipate.

Wasn't that due to a major accident in Dumfries this morning?I don't know. Nina, do you?

Maybe there are two snipers, one is a better shot, and takes one shot and kills his victims with a shot to the head, the other is not as good and keeps hitting his victims in the abdomen or back, this time he took multiple shots.
I'm just thinking out loud.

This guy has a plan CNN is reporting he provided a Target list of some sort in his letter!
Sources: Note contained timeline for more attacks
Therefore, this is a well planned event unfolding.
No wonder the cop on the TV the other day said this is going to get bad!

"However to arrive at a reasonable conclusion one has to follow the evidence, but unfortunately there has been such scant evidence available to the public that all we are left with is to engage in speculation on what is happening."
Time to create a 'terror alert' not unlike the 'Amber Alert'. They need to share MORE info. . .As of this latest, they have not yet released what witnesses may have seen this morning. . .or even whom they may have seen. . .
Not sharing, is not working. . .(sniper warned them not to tell media in first 'note'. . .probably has continued that directive in other communications. . .if so, police are playing into his hand, rather than against it. )

I'm in Northern Virginia (Alexandria to be exact) and got into DC w/no problem this morning (taking 395N). Left at 8:10 and got to work (Dupont Circle) at 8:50.

Victim in "critical condition" - hospital spokesmanThank God he's alive. We might have another survivor here.
Fortunately, this happened not far from Montgomery General Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital, both good trauma centers.

Because Vigilanties would be out in huge numbers hunting down anyone who even looked like an ME.
I have enough faith that other than a few nuts on FR, the majority of the American people still aren't stupid enough to do this.
To: cricket
Yep, would seem the police are acting as unwitting/unwilling, accompli be NOT releasing as much info to allow the public to assist.
Until the police change their minds, the public will not be able to help, and they are playing into his strengths. Of course the sniper doesn't want to contend with 3 million people looking for him.

If this keeps up, eventually we will hear about more than one shot being heard at a shooting site as people are probably arming themselves and somebody is going to start shooting back when they hear gun shots coming from a wooded areas.

Just because the cops got a tape doesn't mean that the message on the tape isn't garbled. Further more, The Moose's statment doesn't mean that the message is garbled, only that they want the guy or guys to think that it is garbled so they will call again.

I'd posted elsewhere that the sniper will probably need to access a range or 100 yard open area in the sticks to resight the scope after a while because use and jostling the rifle around could knock the scope off. The gut shots seem to indicate that he's consistently shooting a little low now. I'd be betting on a resonable probability that he'll try to do this when VA hunters are hitting the ranges\fields in preparation for the opening of the rifle seasons there.
.223 is not a legal deer caliber there...

Yeah, and the next time I hear some "professional sniper" on TV sniffing indignantly that this guy "isn't really a good shot," I think I'm going to pull an Elvis on my own TV. This guy knows what he's doing with a gun. And he ain't missing. And he's got a rather impressive batting average of kills. I think all these "pros" are a little embarrassed thinking a member of their community might have stripped a sprocket, but I too am beginning to believe that all these "clues" are red herrings and this is foreign in origin. All I know, though, is if I owned a white van in the D.C/Md./Va. area, I'd be visiting Earl Schieb ASAP and getting it painted lavender or chartreuse or something.

Yes, but I guess the sniper didn't like Moose's message. Hence his 'Reply' came in as a another shooting victim.
I might assume he is saying 'Moose, you heard me!'

If the report of the money demand is true, it pretty much ends speculation that it's Arab terrorists. It seems odd that they're asking for money. How do they pick it up without getting caught? One freeper had an interesting theory yesterday that there was a threat to the schools and perhaps the request was not for money but for the release of prisoners or cells that we've captured. I heard on the radio this morning that the letter was written by someone with very poor English.

I personally liked the version from Stop Making Sense better. All I have to pick up is "More Songs About Buildings" and my collection is complete. :)
