Despite offering more drama than a week's worth of TV medical shows, Sunday night's Fox telecast of Game 2 of the World Series was down in the ratings 29 percent from the comparable game a year ago. The back-and-forth game between the Anaheim Angels and the San Francisco Giants (won by the Angels 11-10) scored an 11.2 rating and a 16 share from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. But although it put Fox in first place for the night during all time periods, the numbers paled in comparison with the 15.6/23 for Game 2 of last year's contest between the New York Yankees and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

I would think a west coast freeway series might be to blame for these ratings. When there was an east coast series it wasn't as interesting to me. But then I've backed off televised sports in the last few years. I like to play. I'm not as inclined to watch.

I guess Bud "The Slug" Selig is right: baseball can't survive unless the Yankees are in the World Series every year.

What's the World Series??
The Fox News Channel however should get the "Most Dead or Irrelevant Airtime" Award for the sniper coverage.
Over the last 72 hours, probably 60 were of segments of irrelevant talking heads or shots of highways at night with emergency lights flashing.
With the exception of O'Reilly and a portion of Hannity and Colmes, every other damn FNC show was wall to wall sniper crap.
It is putrid overkill and there are other events occurring in the world.

Maybe if they shut up those big load full-of-themselves announcers who spout dopey statistics fed to them and put on some announcers who get into the game. Maybe even take sides and root for one team or another?
And TV just kills baseball with their constant shots:
Close-up of pitcher.
View from behind pitcher looking towards plate
Pitcher
Guy in dugout with intent look
Batter.
Pitcher
Why not show the whole field more often? Baseball is more a chess game than a shooting gallery.

That ball that Bonds hit in the 9th last night was crushed. Its been awhile since I have seen a 98 MPH fastball turned on like that.

There is no reason for a weekend baseball game, playoff or otherwise, to be played at night.
Start them at 1:00 PM Pacific time, so the rest of the country can watch them and stiil get to work on Monday morning...
...unless they are afraid that people would rather watch a regular-season football game over a World Series baseball game...

New this year, it just gets worse, is the pitcher's hand with the ball in it.

I hear ya. And I agree.

Bingo. Last nite's game was in inning 2 at 9 pm EST. Absolute insanity. Didn't end until nearly 1 AM. Any parent that lets their kids up for that should be arrested, and Bud forgets that that's where new fans come from.
