THANK YOU, PETER DEFAZIO
by Helen Franklin

A special thanks to Peter DeFazio for his 16-year contribution to Oregon's rural economy:

Thank you, Peter, for your assistance in closing the doors on a $30 billion timber industry. All those left standing in unemployment lines appreciated the extended 26 weeks of unemployment insurance. And when that ran out, they really appreciated the Emergency Food Assistance Program you set up to help feed their families. Thank you for your assistance in helping to bring those barely-over minimum wage service jobs to replace a few of the former $17+ per hour family wage jobs you took from us.

Thank you, Peter, for your help in securing federal assistance to counties in the wake of their loss of timber tax revenue. This federal welfare program falls considerably short of the timber taxes formerly used to fund schools in our communities. The parents of rural elementary school children want to thank you for those two-hour bus rides their children have to suffer each day getting to and from the consolidated schools.

Thank you, Peter, for supporting animal rights activists. Your efforts to reduce the funding to USDA Wildlife Services were a brave attempt to destroy the agriculture industry that provides food and fiber for the needs of this country.

Thank you, Peter, for the generous funding of $4.3 million to put observers on fishing boats and the other measures you have taken to destroy the fishing industry. The fishing industry extends their thanks for the federal welfare assistance programs you are creating to help them make ends meet. Perhaps you will succeed in destroying another entire industry like you did with timber.

Thank you, Peter, for the millions of dollars you have been able to send to Oregon to create wetlands where productive farmlands once thrived. We hope you will be able to send an equal contribution to our communities when the mosquito-borne West Nile Virus hatches from those wetlands and becomes an equally thriving assault to our communities.

Thank you, Peter, for your support of and close association with Defenders of Wildlife. The introduction of wolves to Oregon will give campers and hikers a new recreational experience in learning to defend themselves with shouts and big sticks. Producers in agriculture will thank you for the millions of dollars lost due to wolves' sport killing of livestock; and people who enjoy abundant game and wildlife will thank you for the significant reduction we will see in our herds of elk and deer.

Thank you, Peter, for supporting legislation these past years to reduce forest access and forest health. Your efforts to allow trees to stand until they rot aided in the destruction of our forests to wildfire this year; and thanks to you, we managed to exceed the devastation of all fires of previous years. Congratulations.

Thank you, Peter. You have spent 16 years in Congress "helping" those who reside in your district. We are out of jobs, we are out of money and we are out of gratitude.

Now, Peter, always one to side against the people in his district, Linn County Oregon, is up for re-election this year. Let's get out and bump him. Everyone in Oregon (and specifically Linn County) needs to read this. Pass it on!!!

Wow! Did I enjoy reading this! Peter was our Congressman when we lived in Eugene. I never saw him represent anyone other than his Homosexual constituency. You talk about someone consumed with the sense of his own self importance, this is the guy! Thanks so much for the post!

What are the chances of unseating this socialist anti-american? Any polls? What is the general consensus in the population centers? (centers of modern socialism) I'm in Portland but really want that horse's *ss out of office.

He's really popular around these parts (because of our dependance on farm subsidy I imagine) and the chances are fair (at best).

Here is an inspiritational letter from the Coos Co. Sherrif in support of the Pubbie contender...

A Real Candidate for Oregon's 4th District
by Sheriff Mike
Posted: 03.27.00
The Sheriff is Michael E. Cook
Coos County Sheriff, Retired

At my age and after being in a Public Office it's not very often I get excited about a political race any more. Well, that all changed the other day when I met the young man from Linn County who is running for the Republican nomination for U.S. Congressman for the fourth district, Mr. John Lindsey. Boy, is he a light at the end of the tunnel. This candidate has his head on straight and knows the issues and where he should be on all of them. He is pro-gun rights and anti-tax raise and it just gets better from there. Most of all, he is for people rights, and that is more than you can say for the incumbent Peter Defazio.

Mr. Lindsey and I spent about two hours together discussing his views, and if I had a son I would want him to be just like this young man. He served his country in the military and has been looking to put America back on track ever since. He believes in his oath of office and the Constitution. He believes in the Bill of Rights and knows it’s what makes this country the great free land that it is and should be. Now isn't that refreshing from someone who is running for a federal office?

Right now John Lindsey is a County Commissioner in Linn County so it's easy to find out about him. He is the kind of public official who will tell it like it is and not try to soft-soap it. He believes in the Agriculture industry, timber industry, helping the economy and people. He doesn't believe in the whacko animal rights groups or the extreme environmentalists who are taking over this country. Mr. Lindsey wants power to return to the people and the state and a whole lot less government intrusion from the federal side of things. Most important is his willingness to stand up for what is right and his belief that it is time to end the Clinton-DeFazio scare tactics and stabilize our resource base in district four. He said, "We can restore our salmon populations by not killing them and removing runs. Our policies should be based on science, instead of government funded science fiction."

You will hear more about this young man in the months to come. If you would like to help him by giving money, displaying signs or just circulating materials please contact him or his campaign chairman at:

Lindsey for Congress
30656 Butte Creek Dr.
Lebanon, Oregon.
97355.

The Campaign Chair is Mike Schmidt and the phone numbers are:

(541) 258-5710 and (541) 928-6363.

Now before I close this week I need to talk about Rep. Peter DeFazio and his record. He has voted to take away your gun rights, and just received a score of 100 from The Humane Society of the United States. Wayne Parcelle, Senior Vice President of that organization just published HSUS's rating this last week. In his little notice he tells about how Defazio attempted to do away with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's trapping program. I shouldn't have to say any more; that's a public safety issue and proves Defazio doesn't care about your safety. That alone is reason enough to vote Defazio out of office.

This Wayne Parcelle needs to crawl back in the hole he crawled out of and leave normal people alone. If you have forgotten, HSUS is the group who would save a dog before saving a retarded child and have taken violent action in the past against all forms of animal raising programs. They also helped brainwash the people of Oregon giving us Measure 18 on Bear and Cougar. They want college aged people to drink beer instead of milk. They are the kind of sickos who support Defazio.

Please stand with me in supporting someone who has your rights and mine in mind, John Lindsey. John, I wish you all the best and I pray even harder that you will be our next Representative from the 4th district.

Michael E. Cook, Coos County Sheriff, Retired

emphasis all mine....

Sounds like a great candidate to me. The real problem is that John isn't getting much attention. I've seen pleanty of yard signs (He is based in my town afterall) but not much media attention.

He's our best shot here, I'll be voting for him. And coming from me (an idiot libertarian) that means something I think.

> What are the chances of unseating this socialist anti-american?

Not much chance (almost zero) I'm afraid.
He makes those populist noises all the time and, besides Eugene, a lot of the rural area gets suckered into buying it (says he is for the timber industry, but votes the other way - he gets his mug on the tube at all the pro industry gatherings, people see what he says, not what he does). He used to have a top NRA rating, and probably by the way they rate congresscritters, he still could have, though he voted for the black gun ban. He has this gimmick where he uses a portion of a pay raise he got years ago to sponsor a few scholarships to the local community college. He vowed at the time to dedicate future pay increases to such things, but I think lately he has just been pocketing them. They named a (bicycle) bridge after him in Eugene, not for any particular great thing he has done, but for bringing home the pork that paid for it.

I email him about issues from time to time, and get the usual blah blah I'm so smart routine. In one email he tried to sell me his '63 Dodge Dart. That exchange was brought about by our discussion of the famous $600.00 tax rebate and Gepfart's suggestion that it wouldn't be enough for us regular folks to buy a muffler - I knew he is sort of a car buff, and I mentioned that and asked him in what auto parts store could I find a $600.00 muffler. He has, or had, this old Dodge Dart that he used to feature in some of his TV ads (to make himself out to be a regular Joe, I suppose) and no kidding, he tried to sell it to me for $700.00 (it's a straight old car, he didn't say if it had a good muffler).

Hey Dave, I love the way he follows the Eugene Celebration parade playing the manure sweeper to charm folks with his self depreciatory humor.

Peter was a county commissioner who learned about the ins and outs of being a Congressman from former Congressman Jim Weaver who in turn was a protogee of Wayne Morse.

John Dellanback was the last GOP Congressman here who last defeated the unpopular one term (60-52) Congressman Charley Porter in 1973. Unless district boundries change, or a miricle happens, Peter will continue to represent this district.

I have sat next to him in tourist on the plane when I was a serviceman. That was an interesting debate. You would have loved to be there. Fat Albert would have too.

You know him much better than I do, but even though I only know him by news appearances, sound bites, interviews etc., looks like I've read him pretty accurately. A typical lying-ass socialist. Lucky for him his constituants are tree huggers or brainwashed college students.

Read the linked article. The listed endorsements say plenty, but nothing new here.

Say, weren't you a protege' of Defazio for a time? Or was that Jim Weaver? Been a long time, back in the Lenny's days.

Nah. DeFasio doesn't like me since that plane ride together. Fat Albert picked me up from the airport that time, ask him about it. ;-)
