CNN blows it on sniper news coverage?

Posted on 10/20/2002 8:27:59 AM PDT by Gen-X-Dad

CNN is always bragging about how they are the NEWS channel while FOX is just a traveling side show. Article after article of CYA claims they are losing audience share because they take the high road and are true unbiased journalists. Last night (I am a nightowl) as the sniper coverage in VA unfolded, FOX and MSNBC covered it live. About 30 minutes into the coverage I flipped to CNN to see what they had to say. At first I thought I had made a mistake, but then realized that the NEWS channel was covering something much more important. Amazed I monitored CNN for the next 30 minutes. They never broke to the sniper like the other two guys. What was this great NEWS that kept them from going to the sniper? It was a CNN/People puff piece on the life of Hugh Hefner, the creator of Playboy magazine. It struck me as one of those absurd moments based on how CNN constantly jumps on their soapbox about being the NEWS station.

You missed the best part of the CNN coverage. The guy on the scene walking fast toward the front of the camera, tossing out his chewing gum, scratching his butt and then standing on his mark. I couldn't believe they left the camera on

ROTFL! Stop it! You are killing me here!!!!! Wish I had seen that!

10,000 idiot talking heads with not more than two differing opions among them...
FOX imo has been the biggest dissapointment openly lying about which weapon the sniper used...red flagging assault/hunting rifles blaming the gun rather than the murdering scum bag behind the trigger..
The are all part and parcel to the "Democrat/left wing/marxist/social engineering/entertainment complex" imo

Okay, I am not a CNN fan or even an apologist, so nobody call me one unless ya want a boot up yers. HOWEVER, that being said, I think this case could do with ALOT less media coverage. The media is playing into the sniper's hands! They're doing exactly what he wants 'em to, i.e., splashing his fifteen minutes (days? weeks? months?) of fame all over the headlines!

Everybody is curious and apprehensive about this dude-- that's natural. I wanna know every excruciating detail just as much as the next guy. If revealing it to us costs us in LEO efficiency, however, it ain't worth it, is it?

Only a CNN reporter would have to scratch his butt in order to report.

But,the question really is....Can the CNN reporter scratch his butt and chew gum at the same time?

while Fox still had Geraldo Rivera speculating about it on the telephone from INDONESIA!

Yeah, I saw this too. What a hoot! I thought Foxes coverage sucked. They were bringing the so called "experts" out of the wood work for commentary and opinions. I think they even had the dishwasher from the Ponderosa Restuarant on interviewing him.

Hmmm I watched CNN from 9 something on and they had continuous coverage until well after 1 am in the morning. Now there are two CNN channels...so not sure which one you are talking about...but the one I was watching had wall to wall coverage.

Not that I care for CNN...sadly we don't get FOX here. Wish we did...CNN basically is worthless :) - at least for real news.

Ever since CNN decided they were going to speak through Clinton's bent penis, they've been irrelevant.

I think he said he tossed his gum and then scratched his butt so I would guess the answer to your question is no.

When you thought he was scratching his butt, that was actually the reporter looking for a place to hold his chewing gum while he was speaking

You missed the best part of the CNN coverage. The guy on the scene walking fast toward the front of the camera, tossing out his chewing gum, scratching his butt and then standing on his mark. I couldn't believe they left the camera on to film that. It was hilarious.

That part was great!

I've figured it out now; Gen-X-Dad turned on the TV late - after Fox had gotten up to speed. For the first hour or so, (I'm talking around 10 pm) CNN was actually covering it on site, while Fox still had Geraldo spouting off from Indonesia.

With all the roads blocked off, reporters were having trouble actually getting to the site, but CNN apparently had a deal with some of the local stations - hence the reporter with the CBS logo on the mike, and the one who SPIT - not tossed - his chewing gum.

You're correct. I should have said spit. Jeez, what a slob. If he would have accidently spit on another reporter, I would have been on the floor. I think I was watching at 9:45 when the reporter showed up.

I think the media is getting a God complex, especially CNN. They think they're God, they think they're the real government and they think they're The People. We got a shooter in DC who is responding to the media. He must be watching all the time. The media is getting out of hand.
