Robert Lacey, author of several highly regarded books about the royal family, said Prince Charles and his two sons, Princes William and Harry, continue to hold the butler in high regard because he has not sold his story to book publishers or tabloid editors.

"He is the only one who was a loyal retainer to Diana who has not cashed in," said Mr. Lacey, referring to "tell all" books by others privy to Diana's private life. "I think that speaks well about his motives."

That was my impression also when I read this story. But the Dallas Morning News opted to put that at the very end.....

Paul Burrell arrives at court
The former butler to Diana, Princess of Wales, Paul Burrell, arrives at Bow Street magistrates court in central London, where he is accused of stealing hundreds of personal possessions from her, the Prince of Wales and Prince William. He was charged yesterday with three counts of theft relating to 342 items said to have been stolen from Kensington Palace.

Those Brits are a greedy lot. Whats really bad is Diana probably gave him a lot of things and he will lose them also. After the way her family and inlaws acted I don't blame him for trying to preserve her things or her privacy.

Agreed. I have no doubt he was very close to Diana, she was that kind of person, preferring the "help" as company to the Royals for the most part. She was indeed generous with her possessions and most likely did give him many things, which he will lose.

He made a mistake by not turning over the really personal items, such as pictures of the Princes in the tub etc to her family. I highly doubt he will win this case.

You bet- my favourite ( English spelling ) "idiot moment" was when, after Di was stone dead, a news bimbo came on and breathlessly announced "stay tuned for the next 15-minute update..."

My wife obsevered ( with her usual wit & sarcasm ) "So, she's going to come back from the dead?"

<< After the way her family and inlaws acted ..... >>

How would you expect "her inlaws" to have behaved toward that "meretricious, banal and empty-headed" vulgate, to whom, to her bitter end, they afforded only the dignity of the consequences of her own self-serving and serially-sluttish actions?

Whoa there, friend. The Royal Family has quite a bit swept under its rug, too. Nobody in that group deserves any medals.

Yes being a brood mare and living with her husbands transgressions and the back biting Royals is such a joy.
