The FReep this evening occurred after a day of heavy rain in the Baltimore/DC area. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, DemocRAT candidate for Maryland Governor, held a fundraiser at the Bethesda Mariott.
The honor roll for tonight's FReep consisted of Big Red, Husband of Big Red, Jimmy Valentine's Brother, and Sauropod.
I arrived first right at 5 o'clock at the Mariott. It took me about 5 minutes to find a parking space, since the parking lot was filled up with cars sporting Townsend/Larson bumper stickers. Some of them had other stickers, such as Gore/LIEberman, Teach Peace, Van Hollen for Congress (vs. Connie Morella, R-MD), etc.
Feeling nauseated to be in the presence of so many 'Rats, I set up directly across the street from the Mariott on a public sidewalk.
I held a sign that read,
Queen Kathleen thy Governess.... Because Maryland Needs Royalty!
I noticed quite a few well-heeled people driving up for the event in BMW's, Mercedes-Benz's; etc. The crowd was generally well dressed. There was a boatload of Townsend/ Larson yard signs lining the sidewalk across the street from me.
I stood at my post for perhaps 40 minutes or so before anyone else showed up. I got the usual one-fingered salutes; a woman screamed at me from her car that me and my sign were "a bunch of sh*t!". I just stood there, not saying a word, knowing that the Mariott hotel staff and the KKT clones knew that I was there and that there was not a thing they could do about it.
About this time Big Red and Husband of Big Red showed up. They had brought a couple of signs: one said "Hillary Go Home!" and another said "Hillary and Kathleen: $i$ters in Corruption" (I think). However, Big Red took a liking to my "Al Qaeda Voter Registration Drive ----> " sign and it's companion sign that said "89% of major media and Buffalo Al Qaeda Sleeper Cells Agree.... Vote Democrat!" She used them the entire FReep.
At one point, a older asian lady walked across the street to us and (pointing to my voter registration sign) said that the time to register to vote in MD had passed. We agreed with her and told her that it ended yesterday. Satisfied, she walked back across the street while we were dying with laughter behind our signs. Big Red made the comment that the woman MUST be a Democrat.
Also, a well dressed man came across the street to us and pointed at the same sign. He told Big Red that the sign was in poor taste. He confided in us that he was Republican (yeah, right, especially dressed the way he was) and that Big Red really didn't believe that (Al Qaeda association with the Democrats). He persisted in this even after the explanation about the Buffalo Six. Big Red asked him if he could read her mind and generally challenged whatever he said. Good on ya Girl!
More suckers continued to pour into the Mariott parking lot. Jimmy Valentine's Brother showed up. He brought four signs with him. They were:
"KKT has 24-7 armed protection. Why don't you?""4 more years of Glendening/Townsend mismanagement?"
"KKT supports capital punishment moratorium for the sniper shooter"
and my favorite, "Chuck Larson - KKT's Affirmative Action"
The last referred to KKT's race-baiting support for affirmative action announced at the Baltimore NAACP meeting this month, and also that Chuck Larson was a Republican up until a few weeks before she decided on him for the Lieutenant Governor job).
JVB also referred to the fact that the Chesapeake Bay Foundation released it's annual "State of the Bay" report and that the State of the Bay was at 27 on a scale of 100 - unchanged over the last five years. JVB asked, "Where did all the money go?" He hit on this point over and over (you have to do that for the Dims' you know.).
We continued to hold signs, etc. At one point, a woman stopped dead in the street to read our signs and screamed out of her car window, "YOU go away" and then parked her car (illegally, i might add) halfway in the entrance to the Mariott. She got out of her car and screamed at us that she was a lawyer (Georgetown Law 1984) and that if we touched her car she would sue. She wanted our names and addresses as well. Definitely a loose cannon.
Towards 7 pm, I had a young girl approach me from the same side of the street I was on and yell at me, stating that KKT was a great lady because KKT enabled her to take better courses in high school (I kid you not).
There was also a local individual that showed up with an Ehrlich sign. He was ranting in a loud voice in the entranceway to the Mariott asking "Where's my money?" I thought he was the right-wing's version of Eschoir at first, but as i found out later, he was actually coherent.
We gave two interviews: to CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company) and to Channel 13 (Baltimore). I gave the second one. It may be on at 11 pm tonight. Part of the chanting we did for Channel 13 was ask the question, "Where's Parris?" This refers to the fact that KKT does not want to be associated with the Glendening administration any more. Parris Glendening has done gone disappeared. Channel 13 appreciated that chant.
In any case, good fun was had by all. It was also important that we were out there.
Deus Vult! 'Pod
Boiler Plate
90% of Maryland criminals prefer KKT to Ehrlich
[|;-)
BTW, excellent signs!
I wonder if anyone read your signs to KKT...
You guys did great, tonight. I'm surprised to hear that none of you guys barfed, with all those "Townsend" signs plastering the rights-of-way (illegal sign placement, BW... $250 per sign fine to the offending campaign if caught, hint, hint).
I had vehicle issues that kept me tied up until too late to do any good out there with you all. Up-side is that I have dependable wheels now.
'Pod, how did the channel 13 news go??
Next chance to FReep KKT is on Friday in Baltimore (Wyndham Hotel, Inner Harbor)! Double bonus... You can FReep Bill Clinton at the same event!!
Great job and great report. Got some laughs out of some of your detractors ... hard to believe ... like some of those EnviroJihads there at Mobile in Dallas.
What is it with these liberals .. they are always screaming ..
GREAT FREEP!!! and thanks for the report
