The big news of the day: Iraq. In a White House East Room ceremony, flanked by nearly 100 members of Congress,* President Bush signed Congress resolution authorizing the use of force against Iraq, if needed. In today's speech, Bush pressed the UN to adopt a new resolution compelling Iraq to submit to unconditional weapons inspections. Israels Prime Minister Ariel Sharon arrived yesterday in Washington, DC, yesterday for talks with President Bush, which are expected to focus on setting ground rules for Israel before and during a possible U.S. war on Iraq. Enjoy your daily dose of W!
Note: D/DDJR1 (Disclaimer/Daily Dose Joint Resolution 1) Rintense is taking a much-deserved personal day and asked me to fill in. I post this with the caveat that it is done without return Freepmail confirmation of assigned and accepted duties! ;-)
* Notably excepting Mr. Gephardt who was rumored to have called in sick -- something about a problem that manifests if being photographed while holding his nose -- and who pleaded travel complications, and excepting also Mr. Daschle, whose granddaughter was born Wednesday and who also pleaded travel complications. God bless the grandbaby.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: With this resolution, Congress has now authorized the use of force. I have not ordered the use of force. I hope the use of force will not become necessary. Bush signs H.J. Resolution 114. "The resolution I'm about to sign symbolizes the united purpose of our nation, expresses the considered judgment of the Congress, and marks an important event in the life of America," said President Bush in the East Room at The White House.

Seems I always manage to get this placed
ipso post facto!

After the signing, while shaking Rep. Hydes hand, various MOC applaud the President (savor it, sir; we know how rare, how fickle, it is).

Everybody is looking at the President except John McCain, who is looking straight ahead. I know, I know...but I still don't trust the guy. Never will.

Neither one was there. Not even Gephardt who pushed the bill in the House. What a hypocrit! I think it's because some of the liberal House members are threatening to elect a new Minority Leader. That's what I heard anyway.
On their way to the signing.
