The USO Canteen FReeper Style
Delivering a Touch of Home
.
.
A Touch of Home
.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.
This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.
Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.
We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.
So, to the men and women who answered the call,
in both times of war and peace, thank you.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Ok.. Maybe it's just me, but I cannot figure what your saying in your last two posts.
Are they news stories being translated from a foreign news site?
I mean no offense, just curious.
To: Aeronaut
Good morning, Aeronaut, and
Hi Otto. Thanks for the protective flyover of the USO Canteen each morning.

Oh no! LOL! We will never get it away from radu and Jen. Girlz, check out the race car we get today for transportation. I'll round up Dramamine if anybody needs it. Do we have to go round and round, or can we go cruising? I get the window.

O-2A SkyMaster Bump!
Tom Pilsch with O-2A, 67-21309, at the Hue Citadel Airfield, August, 1968
The Oscar Deuce"
The O-2 Skymaster was a military version of the Cessna 337 Super Skymaster 4-6 passenger general aviation aircraft. It was purchased by the U.S. Air Force beginning in 1967 in two versions. The O-2A was used in the forward air control mission. It was equipped with additional radios and ordnance hard points under the wings for rocket and machine gun pods. The O-2B was the 337 civilian version modified to carry a large loud speaker on the right side of the fuselage for psychological warfare operations.

Now I know two people with the name Meta. My mom was the 10th child out of 11. Meta is my mom's favorite sister, they've always been close and write each other all the time. I got to meet her and the rest of my family a few times while I was stationed in Germany. I also got to see the house I was born in and the Kaserne my dad was stationed in while I was there. It was an exciting time for me. Unfortunately, I never met any of my grandparents.

I want to thank all of you for the kind words about my dad. He never spoke much about what happened in the war. The first time I remember him giving me any details was right after I enlisted, I guess he was trying to prepare me for what might be coming. He never told me in words, but I saw it in his eyes and my mom confirmed it later, but he was so proud when I enlisted. My mom told me that he bragged to all his friends about how his son had enlisted and was serving in the Army. I can't tell you how proud that made me feel.
My youngest daughter did her 8th grade graduation report on the Warsaw Uprising and the Home Army. She asked my dad a lot of questions to give the report an "I was there" perspective. She got an A on the report and I know my dad was impressed that she would select the Home Army as a subject.

That is interesting.
When I was a teen I knew a girl who I thought was cute. Her name was Maidda. We definately liked each other but we were only around 15 or 16 and we (well me) were shy.
I always wondered about how to spell her name.
I think that Just learned.
Meta!
That is a great name. Sort of like a meta-name!

Sam, this was a terrific history lesson. Thank you so much for presenting it here on FReeper Friday. What a great family you have, and such proud Americans. Please tell your Dad for me, "Thank you for your service in the Home Army, and thank you again for your service to the United States". How proud you must be of him, and he of you for your service, too.
To: tomkow6
You might be able to find a burka made of chiffon on e-bay!
