I'm a little concerned....

Posted on 10/10/2002 12:40:59 PM PDT by JimThayner

umm...I'm a little concerned about some stuff on this website. why do we call democrats 'rats? they call us "repugnants" I think we're above that kind of childish namecalling. I think we're coming down a little too hard on the liberals too. I'm an Independent, and I try to find the truth. well, the TRUTH is that 90% of the time, conservatives are correct. why do i voice opposition? Aren't we above all this stuff that the democrats do? I think we need to prove to America that WE are controlled, clear thinking, intelligent, and sophistacted people. NOT people who go and cheer and jeer at the other side. my suggestion is this: Instead of going out to cheer and geer at the democrats, we should go out and do community service projects, hand out fliers, and do stuff to help the community. THAT is what will separate us from the democrats. WE spend our time living what we chant about, the democrats spend their time chanting all the time. Talkting instead of DOING. I think we need to go beyond a "political party." I DO believe that the liberals will destroy our country if not stopped. However, i don't want us to destroy it in the process of trying to stop them. Lets show them up: do work for others, and such. Organize relief for disaster victims. (headlines: FreeRepublic first on site rendering aid to distaster victims, liberals shocked at being shown how much jerks liberals are" Spend less time and money on trying to talk the liberals to death with reason (obviously that won't work). Spend time DOING. My father knew California State Assemlyman Brian (B.T.) Collins since they were in Boy Scouts together. Look up BT Collins. he was a POPULAR Republican in CALIFORNIA! He spent his time helping other people, and used the phrase "is the world any better because you were in it?" I would like to offer my own version: "Is america better off because of the Republican Party's majority?" What do you all think about this? BTW, don't worry, I'm not a liberal. jim

They're all a bunch of Clymers. :)

LOL, well, you could not expect me to give all the names could you? I would be here all day. Here is something that puzzles me however. I know some Rats, and some of them are reasonably nice people (until we talk polictics) and many live their lives moderately conservatively, but still vote for the Rats. Myabe they simply stop thinking when they talk about politics, because you would think that no sane, thinking person, with half a brain, would ever vote for the Rats.

They picked the name themselves with all that commotion about the so-called subliminal message in a Bush ad. Remember? They said we were calling them RATS. So it stuck.

"I personally like it better when we called them 'Clymers'."

I would argue that the term "clymer" is reserved for a particularly offensive breed of Rat. That is in the words of someone who really knows ...."worldClass"

Moderation is still a virtue

Extremism in the cause of liberty is no vice, oderation in the face of evil is no virtue.

Jim: Your admonitions are probably well-intentioned. But you must know that politics, particularly when we are at a point in our Republic where decisions as to who we elect and what policies we follow will likely mean the total failure of our Republic if we get it wrong, are a substitute for war. In that regard, they are bloodsport.

Personally, I refer to the major parties by their proper names, and I refer to any particular representative or senator by their proper name, but that is my choice. Many are more passionate and let that show in the names they use in reference to said politicians.

My personal reasons for lurking here, and for posting here when I do are that I firmly believe that we are on the brink as a Republic, and that having a firm grasp of the facts and the reasons for that condition is essential to our survival.

A quote that I like that sums up my position:

"America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards." -- Claire Wolfe

I believe it is just barely too early. We are, in many ways, especially with regard to the creeping socialism found in almost every federal policy, the completely out of control immigration policies, and the anti-2nd amendment policied of the feds and libs, quickly approaching the latter stages of the 'too early' period.

Given that dynamic, using derogatory wording in posts among like minded individuals is not out of line. It is a personal choice. I will show respect for someone and their position right up to the moment that I feel that they are a inveterate detriment to our Republic and to our liberties ... after that, all bets are off.

Let me put a picture (and it's very powerful) to why "rats" is a fair characterization.....

The "RATS" label was popularized by the absurd hubub over the subliminal slandering in that 2000 GOP campaign ad. The label is perfect ... it expresses a sentiment here that is far more accurate and truthful than calling them "the loyal opposition."

Lord, now we are quoting old sci-fi...

Yeah, I grok it. But grok this, they HATE us. They don't care if they have to lie, cheat and steal to win. To them it is good against evil. They just fail to see which side they are on. Anything is fair game just as long as they stop us.

Maybe, just maybe, if they feel some return fire, they might just catch the hypocracy in their complaints about it.

I used to be civil.

I used to work for a Liberal Democrat Congressman.

I used to care what the other side thought.

Now that I know that they don't give a rats a$$ for my thoughts, feelings, or opinions - that no matter what I say I am just an ignorant, greedy, racist, homophobic, white male - they can SHOVE CIVIL DISCOURSE WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE.

I don't want to be friends with them. I want them to lose power. I want them to become a footnote in history. I want them to be seen for the folly that they are. I don't see how being "civil" advances the cause. Just the opposite. No one respects a carpet.

But I am hopeful they will get back to full contention, and end the drought that began in 1948.

Holy moly Ivan. I am not going to ask how old you are, but that was the year I was born. At least my Minnesota Twinkies have won two series (87 and 91) My honey was born in 1979, and that makes me 31 years and 8 months older then her. I know I am robbing the cradle, but what a way to go, right?
