Jan Schneider, a lawyer, author and activist in Democratic operations at the national level

she has Washington experience as a political activist and member of the Clinton transition team

Schneider is glib, blunt and outspoken

On health care, she supports a transition to a universal health care system to ensure coverage for all Americans but immediate relief for needy senior citizens and veterans. She correctly advocates closing the loophole in patent laws that allows drug companies to charge Americans far more for prescriptions than across the border in Canada or Mexico.

She would freeze the Bush administration tax cuts and use the saved revenue to provide prescription coverage and boost education(HOW?), which is one of her top priorities. She pledges to work toward protecting the integrity of the Social Security trust fund. On homeland security, she worries about the compromise of civil liberties through measures taken to prevent terrorism. On the environment, she advocates action to deal with global warming, including offering tax incentives to promote research into more energy-efficient transportation systems and more conservation among Americans in general.

In this Congressional race, Jan Schneider is the only candidate with experience in international relations and politics in our nation's capital, including the United States Congress. Jan is also the only candidate with legal and legislative experience: she is a member of the Bar Associations of Florida, the District of Columbia, and New York, and has also served on numerous and diverse professional and public interest boards.

In 1973 Jan graduated from Yale Law School, in the same class as Bill and Hillary Clinton. In 1975, she received a Ph.D. in political science (international relations) from Yale University Graduate School. Prior to that, Jan graduated Summa Cum Laude from Brown University in three years and earned a Masters and Certificate from the Russian Institute of Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs and a Certificate in International Organizations from the University of Geneva.

Jan has been actively involved in national and international law and politics for more than 25 years. In addition to practicing law, Jan is the author of two books on international environmental law (the second is expected to be released this fall) and of numerous articles on domestic and international environmental and legal issues. She has served on the governing boards of the American Society of International Law, the International Law Association (American Branch), the United Nations Association of the Capital Area, the Council on Ocean Law, the Roshan Institute, and ARMDI, to name a few.

Jan was deeply involved in the 1992 Presidential Campaign. She was responsible for Yale Outreach, "Friends of" Bill and Hillary, and New York and New Jersey Lawyers for Clinton-Gore 1996. Jan also researched for and prepared policy papers for the Clinton/Gore Transition Team. She worked for Terry McAuliffe, now chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and Ann Jordan while the co-chaired the 1997 Presidential Inaugural Committee. In addition to numerous other political activities, Jan was a legal volunteer in Palm Beach during the recount in Election 2000.

Paid political advertisement authorized by Schneider for Congress Campaign. Approved by Jan Schneider (D).
