"U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone's speculated third run for the Senate precipitated a lot of discussion in our home a year or so ago. The conclusion I reached was: I liked his stands on education, his support of human rights, his thinking on social security and his support on health care.

Shortly thereafter, we ran into Sen. Wellstone and his family at a restaurant in St. Paul. I told him of my support for his third term in the Senate, if he decided to run. Later, he graciously came to our table to meet my family. We all encouraged him to run for a third term and continue to bring to attention the issues he has so passionately believed in. Not all Minnesota residents are turned off by Sen. Wellstone's third term run. Many of us think it is a good idea."

Am looking for the 'exact' Minneapolis Star-Tribune link.

Many in Minnesocold think it is okay for a Senator to break 'campaign promises'. I consider it lying and disagree.

I just e-mailed my 80 year old WWII Marine dad about this VFW outrage. Go get 'em, Hugh.

GOP says Wellstone urged 'thugs' to attack cameramen--Mark Brunswick 10/08

The VFW piece is the second story in this article.

"For the first time, U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone, D-Minn., has received the endorsement of the national political action committee (PAC) of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the nation's second-largest veterans service organization.

Wellstone, endorsed Monday, has become a champion of some veterans because of his work on benefits issues but has been criticized by others for votes on military spending that they believe hurt national security.

The VFW PAC brings with it the political support of 1.9 million members and 750,000 auxiliary members."

This is one of the big reasons why I no longer belong to nor support the VFW. The organization spends too much of its time and energy trying to get Federal handouts for winos who claim to be "down on their luck" Vietnam Vets, but who on closer examination turn out to be misfits who spent less than 180 in service before being chaptered out, or who spent their harrowing year of combat as a clerk in Long Binh.

The Vet who did his job, spent 12 months in the boonies, took his purple heart and CIB home to the closet; and got on with his life being a hard-working productive member of society doesn't get much attention.

Thanks for posting this. I'm listening to Hugh and the former VFW members now....what a kick in the gut. FoxNews had Susan Sarandon on today, the day following the President's efforts to educate and unite the lost left. That was a kick in the gut for our Vets as well.

In Time magazine's cover story this week on the move by some universities to eliminate the Scholastic Achievement Test as a barometer of intelligence, there's a big photo of Wellstone with a caption noting that he scored below 800 out of a possible 1,600 on the dreaded SAT.

Bush, whom liberals widely deride as an alleged intellectual lightweight, topped Wellstone's score by more than 400 points - scoring a 1,206.

Roll Call - March '01.

I'm a transplanted Texan, to Minnesota, and a Viet Nam war Vet. I've been a member of the VFW since I got home from the Nam. I just cancelled my membership with a letter. It's really a shame because they have nice facilities, and programs. But, I cannot support an organization that would support a socialist like Wellstone. I did this with regret, but I did it with good VFW friends here in Minnesota. They didn't just recieve my letter today, they recieved many, just like mine. You can believe me, there are many more conservatives in the ranks of the VFW in Minnesota than there are lefties. The next elections in the VFW should be REAL interesting. The membership of the VFW are NOT happy about this.

Remember, cash is what allows Republican victory! The unions plan a massive GET OUT THE VOTE effort in many states.

Don't let the union bosses get a victory with dues STOLEN from their members....Make a DONATION, to the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) or the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC)...links below:
