'Damn the Economy, Slow Speed Ahead'--Left Coast Dockworker Leadership.

Why does the dockworker leadership think blaming the Bush Administration for their thoughtless action involving the West Coast Port Authority will help DemocRATS in the upcoming election? They honestly believe their 'veil of deception' will not be pierced. California, since the .com 'crash', has been hurting, so the dockworkers pick now to 'stop the flow' of goods into the state and country. How does ruining Christmas help the 'working man'? It will only make Governor Davis budget woes(mostly of his own, and the Sacramento leftist Legislature, making) even worse. The rank-and-file dockworker buys the talking point that, technically, they were 'locked out' and didn't strike. Only the least interested citizen is unaware of the leadership orchestrated 'slowdown' at the ports.

Maybe Barbra Streisand and Algore should be making up lines about how 'People Hurting People' by not working is 'MEAN-SPIRITED' and unpatriotic.

What is the current 'holdup' of goods at West Coast ports? Don't blame the workers, or the teachers! Blame the 'leadership' they are following.

These guys make
6 figures for watching trucks, and want to bring the entire west coast sea import/export capacity of this great nation to it's knees because they are ludites.
They will be replaced by "those evil kapitolist komputers" sooner or later. The question is, does this upgrade happen BEFORE billions and billions are lost from our economy or AFTER billions and billions are lost.
I think back to the Reagan days when he was faced with a air traffic controller strike. Reagan said "Get back to work or you're all fired". They didn't, so they were all fired. I still think GWB has a little Reagan in him.

This is about to become damaging to the country's worst state economy, Washington, the press is reporting here. It's hurting agriculture, it's hurting ("Bye-bye") Boeing. And so-called "Governor" Gary Locke is nowhere to be seen.
But to look on the bright side, it'll make R-51 (the massive tax increase that will be mostly spent before they get around to laying down roadway) less palatable.

"They will be replaced by "those evil kapitolist komputers" sooner or ..." by workers of the 'Peoples Republic of China' at 1/10th the pay 'later'
. Our 'true' blue-collar workers won't know what hit them, much like the auto-workers, textile workers, steel workers, and coal-miners.(Let down by the RAT leadership that pretends to 'feel their pain', while the jobs go elsewhere.)

Did I hear correctly their average pay os 106K per year? From the numbers reported here that's not inconceivable. They were quoting figures around $85k typical(?), $160k for foremen. Kinda makes you wonder how they put any food on the table, doesn't it? Poor, poor overworked, underpaid dockworkers.

Here's some 3-year old information on dockworker wages.
Notice how non-US labor is 'cheap', and available; and US labor is expensive and hard to come by. Makes doing business in the US hard to do.

I heard 80K to 150K average salaries on network news the other day. I guess the bad guys (union) won in On The Waterfront.

Do these workers have any particular specialized skills? Bush should figure a way to authorize their replacement (on a both temporary and permanent basis), including appointing such National Guard presence as is necessary to protect them.

This could be the straw that breaks the Camels Back ie so many people are in hock up to their neck, having re-financed ther house two or three times, and maxed out the credit cards. If they have to stay home bacause the plants shut down it could be the start of the Housing Bubble Burst. Stand by to receive bad news.
