US Citizen found with "Cop Killer" Bullets and....
Freeport News - Bahamas | 1st October 2002

Posted on 10/01/2002 10:59:40 AM PDT by John_11_25

Mr. John Avery Moore previously from Florida, pleaded guilty to possession of unlicensed and illegal weapons.

He was in possession of 17 assorted riffles and Shotguns, 14 assorted hand guns, one silencer, 70 live rounds of ammunition, including several "Cop Killer" bullets, several holsters and telescopic lens, and was given a $143,000 fine or 3 year sentence in Freeport Grand Bahama on September 23rd 2002.

Now a Bahamian would normally get 2-3 years sentence for one gun, but this person was shown preferential treatment, why? Because he was a US citizen and had opened a small Glazing business in the Bahamas.

None of the weapons were registered and all came through a shipping company located in Freeport from the USA. (He produced a receipt from the shipping company.

The gentleman said he was a Gun Collector, but he kept the guns in a storage room in the house in a metal chest.

His Lawyer also stated that one of the guns was the gun that Mr. Avery's son killed himself with.

Freeport is only 56 miles from the US coast, with 40,000 population.

With today’s security in ports and airports, where they stop you with a small pair of scissors; it amazed me that someone could move this type of arms around so easily.

The US should not just worry about what is coming in, but also what is going out of the US, as it may come back to bite.

And why are people being treated with kit gloves when they are caught. An example needs to be set, no matter what the nationality or position in society of the person found guilty.

Crime is Crime and Justice needs to be seen to be done.

I just wonder, what other things this man was doing in the USA, or whom he was fronting for?

What is a "Cop Killer" bullet? Any bullet (even .22's) can kill anyone. Any rifled ammo can penetrate any soft body armor

What are cop killer bullets? Are the hydro-shocks I keep loaded when not practicing enough to get me labeled as having cop killer bullets?
They cost enough.

Many cops use HydraShoks. I guess they're cop killers too. hehe

I can't remember the name of the real "cop killer" bullets. I want to say Talons, or something similar. I believe they had teflon tips. Someone in Congress hyped it up like the "plastic" Glocks that can pass through airport security and another urban legend was born.

When the PR concept of a "cop killer" bullet came out, it applied to bullets with special coatings such as teflon which gave them superior kevlar penetration relative to what one would expect from a standard (even hard and nonexpanding) bullet of the same caliber and velocity. That said, I understand that no cop has ever been killed because such a bullet has penetrated his armor. Further, the whole phony uproar about these bullets almost certainly did result in the deaths of police, because it reminded idiot criminals that cops wear vests, and thus should be shot in the head.

What the hell is a cop-killer bullet? Sounds like some media-generated hype to me. Do the 240-grain hollowpoints for my .44 magnum qualify? You can easily kill somebody with a .22 round, so what's the deal?

Actually, Hydrashocks and Talons, although quite effective against unvested people, are expanding bullets, quite the opposite of armor-penetrating bullets. Of course, anti-gun types want to ban BOTH expanding and penetrating bullets, and arguably can thereby ban all bullet types. (Just as they want to ban both the guns that are too small and/or junky ("Saturday Night Specials") and those that are too large and/or powerful ("assault rifles" and "sniper rifles").

Black Talon was a load of hooey. The KTW teflon-coated bullet is the original-accept-no-substitutes cop-killer bullet.

It can punch through vests without any trouble. I don't personally like the bullet because of some tests I've seen videos of--these rounds MASSIVELY overpenetrate (through the front of a Kevlar vest, through a cadaver, through the back of the vest, through a wall, across a bedroom through another wall, found about 100 yards away.

Murphy's First Law of Home Defense holds that an overpenetrating bullet will magically manage to hit the following: (a) your own kid in his or her bed; (b) your neighbor's kid in his or her bed; (c) some poor schlub trying to call 911 to report the guy breaking into your house; (d) the cop responding to your 911 call; (e) all of the above.

Hmm, I thought Talon was the name of the armor piercing bullet. My clip is filled with HydraShoks.

70 live rounds of ammunition

Oh, horrors! That's slightly more than 4 rounds per gun! My goodness!

Yep. That's why rounds like HydraShoks are safer. They usually don't come out the other end.

Of course, I don't use my pistol for home defense. I use the shotgun.

Comments lacking thought....... Cop Killer bullet's ?!?!? That's any rifle in America that will punch a NIJ approved ballistic vest. A man with 31 firearms and 70 rounds of ammunition who ships his collection and keeps the reciept is not a threat.

The real threat to this country IMHO is your mindset presented here that all things declared wrong is right..........

Sad state of affairs that something I may possess in one state here in the USA can make me a felon in a different state in the USA. Socialist be dammed and their seditious laws that will eventually make you and I both criminals while we do nothing more than sit in our homes.

Stay Safe ....

Except for the silencer, about the same for my collection. Although I have slightly more than 70 rounds of ammo!

black talons, as i recall. winchester quit the black and renamed them sxt's for civilians. nowadays, the black ones are called sxt's but they're law enforcement only.

cabelas had a closeout sale on winchester sxt's this spring... with a good price for 124gr 9mm's so i bought a case. yup, you got it, they're black. go figure.

I saw an interesting show on either Discovery or TLC about th edevelopment of body armor. They showed the testing procedures they used. Not bad, but looked to be inconsistant. I guess the army has taught me well. You don't want to be second guessed. They might have been just demonstrating for the cameras and the show, but I would have shown more strigent standards.

Quite true. I'm just pointing out that there's a reasonable basis for disliking KTW ammunition in general--it makes the RESPONSIBLE exercise of one's 2A rights that much harder from the start.

You don't have a right to keep and bear nuclear weapons, because you can't use them in the defense of one's person and property without inflicting ghastly damage upon the persons and property of one's fellows. The same principle applies here: discharging the round means you're trusting solely to luck instead of a prudent understanding of the potential risks and rewards.
