Sean's reading this now. He's right, if you allow this then you've established precedent for a party changing candidates anytime you find yourself behind in the polls.

"I always had a soft spot for Traficant. At least you knew what you were getting up front."

Yep. He's a very straightforward type of crook. Toricelli, on the other hand, is a sneaky type of crook.

This law is ridiculous and will not stand. Otherwise, the governor could appoint Senators indefinitely into the future, so long as he got the Senator to resign within 30 days before an election. That way, a party that controls the Governorship could control the Senate seat theoretically forever.

It's similar to the Civil Rights Commission flap that we just went through. The rats will lose--if the courts follow the law, which is not a sure thing.

I think if the Dems try to pull anything here Forrester can rightfully argue that his rights were violated under the Equal Protection clause (see Bush v. Gore). The rules have been known and set, and now the Dems want to create a special election!

The public backlash would be incredible if they pulled the "delay the election a year" BS. They want war at HOME, they'll get war at HOME.

OK. Forrester suddenly gets ill and we run Rudy Guiliani.

Hold on I'll ask him. (Calling down to basement) "Yo, Rudy! You wanna be a Senator?"

Rudy says OK, he'll do it!
