Carl Cameron on now. It comes down to the law (yes Carl, we already know that). Torricelli 's one option is to resign, allowing McGreevey to appoint a replacement who could be put on the ballot, or allow someone else to be put on the ballot.

By what legal mechanism can they put anyone new on the ballot though? The deadline has passed. I'll bet that's what they are scurrying around to figure out. If they can't find something that flies, cancel the press conference?

Now it's going to go down to the timing of his resignation. If today or prior to October 6, then no problem. If between October 6 and November 5, then problem writ large. If after November 5, then no problem.

Which means it comes down to how much the Torch thinks he's been screwed over himself by the Democratic Party. Wouldn't it be interesting if the reason this backroom dealing is all taking so long is because McGreevey and the Carville RAT brigade are trying desperately to find some job or position with which to appease the Torch, who's so pissed off at the RATS himself that he absolutely refuses to quit before the 6th?

Hey, I don't know the answer to your question, I just report! LOL!

Rats are in a pickle and are trying to pull something off 100% in the public eye. They don't even have the cover of precinct workers or Jeffords' "consciencs." This is a flat-out a grab to keep the seat. HA!

Sounds like they'll do it via the legal relativism practiced by the NJ Supreme Court. The same ones who "screwed" the boy scouts. FL Supreme Court worshipers.

Have any of the media attempted to contact Republican candidate Forster for his comments?

Still, I'm betting that the Dems really are looking at the option.

They are. Nothing matters to the Democratic Party but retaining control of the Senate, by any means necessary. NOTHING.

Does anyone besides me think the Dems going this far for one seat is just a bit too far? Is control of the Senate that tenuous?

If the Torch resigns now, McGreevey appoints a replacement who, by virtue of his "incumbancy" is then automatically on the ballot. Pubs are ready to challenge this in court tomorrow apparently.

Have any of the media attempted to contact Republican candidate Forster for his comments?

He'd be foolish to say anything other than "we'll see what happens." (Followed by a recitation of his main campaign issues.)

"DNC has been trying to locate Bradley all day...seems Bradley is on a plane somewhere and not taking their calls..."

Well now, isn't that just damn convenient. Bradley "can't be found," while the Torch's office is putting out to the press that he will step down "if a replacement can be found"...

You know, they have nationalized the Senate elections with this maneuver. There is nothing to stop the RNC from running ads n every Senate race calling attention to this tactic and asking for Americans to discredit this type of disenfranchisement.

They're now saying that if someone steps down within 51 days of an election, his/her Party may NOT appoint a replacement. That's NJ law; reported on FNC just now by Shepard Smith.
