I KNEW I had a sick feeling in my stomach about this move today, but I couldn't figure out what they were up to.
I think you just nailed it, and I'm very very worried that this is exactly what they are up to.
It's too late to remove him from the ballot, but they saw it work for Carnahan, so why not now? And there are way too many Democrats in this state (I live in NJ) that would be tickled pink to vote for any other Democrat if they could now. This gives them the ability to vote for the Democrat without having to admit that they are willing to settle for a known crook over a Republican.
THIS STINKS!!!!!

I thought Forrester did OK, and I'm delighted that he got the nation-wide airing. He is a formal kind-of guy, but he is quick and intelligent. The complete opposite of that weasel T.
Isn't Forrester supposed to be on Imus tomorrow? I think he was scheduled even before T. started his 'mulling about withdrawing' today. Good timing for Imus.

Howlin is indeed Liz Taylor - I was with her when we had tea with the new First Lady and her mother in law, a former First Lady. :)
That's Howlin right up front in the red dress.

The really crappy thing about that picture is that YOU didn't have to post in a fake picture of yourself.........LOL.

...whenever a vacancy shall occur by reason of any cause other than the expiration of the term; You're getting closer, but in my hypothetical, the vacancy does not occur by reason of the expiration of the term. The vacancy is created because Torch resigns a month before his term ends (he's just not feeling well).
The real answer is... even though poorly worded, this statute cannot be constued to overrule, invalidate, or otherwise cancel a regular election at the end of a term.

I was just skimming thru this thread. Isn't that Howlin in that picture?-----The one in the red dress?

I agree..... Never meant to imply otherwise. Pepsi One .....

I haven't seen such a disgusting display of fake emotions, "poor me" BS, back patting and general passing the buck since Daschle gave his Pink Tie speech last week.

U.S. Senator from NJ is a federal office that triggers federal law. So it's not the same as an issue involving a gubernatorial election.

Imagine being one of those black mayors that Torricelli brought out for that news conference a few days ago. They all stood up and praised Torricelli for his commitment to New Jersey's urban sh!t-holes, then urged their constituents to support the crooked scumbag "for the good of the state." Heck -- imagine how Lisa Beamer must feel after signing that letter in the NY Times the other day which praised Torricelli!

If they thought they could get away with it it would surely happen!

But they are on the ballot. They are choosing to remove themselves from the ballot and then complaining that they aren't on the ballot. What was the whole primary all about if they say that they aren't on the ballot? But these are RATs we are talking about it. Common sense and reason will not prevail.

The procedures for conducting the election is governed by state law, not federal law.
