Scott Garrett for Congress

I wanted to drop everyone a note regarding where Assemblyman Garrett will be this weekend, and what he will be up to. Please pay special attention to the note after the schedule on an upcoming debate, and how to get tickets.

Saturday:

9:00am Scott will be attending a candidates Breakfast hosted by the Ridgewood GOP, and the Ridgewood Republican Committee with Special Guest Steve Malzberg. The Breakfast will be at Café Wineberrie, 30 Oak Street, Ridgewood, NJ

11:00am Scott is scheduled to be at the Bergenfield Street fest/Sidewalk Sale. The Bergenfield Republican Club has a booth on Washington Ave. Please join Scott as he is further introduced to the people of Ridgewood. Scott will be spending a lot of time in Bergenfield, so if you can make it out to be with Scott

during the day, it would be greatly appreciated.

Scott will later be attending the Bloomingdale Pride and

Arts Festival on his way to an event back in Sussex County. The exact time of his arrival and departure at this event will be determined based on how things go in Bergenfield.

Sunday:

12:00pm Scott will be at the Ridgewood Country Fair on East Ridgewood Avenue. The Ridgewood Republican Club will have a Booth that Scott will meet at. This is another event that will be important to have a crowd with Scott. Word is that Torricelli will be campaigning at this event with our opponent Anne Sumers. It will be interesting to see someone who almost never votes (Anne) out campaigning with someone who apparently is willing to accept all sorts of money to vote.

Other Information:

Debate: On October 7th, Assemblyman Garrett and Ms. Sumers will be participating in a debate at Ramapo College sponsored by the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey. THERE ARE A LIMITED NUMBER OF TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR THIS EVENT, AND THEY ARE FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED. Please, ASAP, go to http://www.cianj.orgto order your tickets. Right near the top

of the web page is a link to click on which reads, "5th District Congressional Debate-Click Here for Tickets." There is a limit of two tickets per person and space is limited. We can be assured that Anne's supporters are going to rush to snatch up these tickets so they can stack the deck. I encourage you, even if you aren't sure you can go, to get your two tickets ordered right away. We can find people later to use them if you can't.

Phoning: We have phones running constantly at the Midland Park office and the BCRO. If you can take some time to work a phone bank, please let me know. Phones are running AT LEAST 6:00-9:00 Mon through Thurs, and likely at other times if you are available. We will also have phones running in Warren County, and can always have people phoning in our Newton Office. Please commit to a little or a lot of time each week and we'll get you scheduled.

Letters to The Editor:

If you haven't (or even if you have but it has been awhile) submitted a letter to the editor and would be willing, please respond to this email and I'll get one to you that you can send. This is an important component to the campaign, and all you have to do is send an email.

Scott on Television:

This Sunday New Jersey Network (NJN) will air a debate that was taped today between Scott and his opponent. The debate is on "On the Record" with Michael Aron. The debate will air at 9:00am and will be rebroadcast at 11:00am both this Sunday, the 29th of September. Any questions or comments on the campaign, please feel free to contact me any time.

As I mentioned on another thread, let's hope the locals get together and start having a daily or weekly Rosary/prayer time outside this clinic.

It worked in Eugene, OR to close a clinic!

Closure Threatens Clinic in Eugene School

Some words from Alan Keyes...
"Slavery was what discarded, and rejected, and denied the fundamental principle of right and justice in America. And what was done in the name of slavery then is done for the sake of abortion now."

"Harden our hearts to the innocents in the womb, and we have hardened our hearts to the need for compassion, and mercy, and fellow-feeling, and charity, and decency in this world."

"We cannot afford to guide our steps according to the opinions of the world or according to the opinions of those who are today the masters of the world's praise."

"Without faith, there is no freedom. Without God, there is no liberty."

"Justice in the end is not just about what we do or don't do. Justice is about love. Love understood not as a feeling, but as a commitment to do what is right. Love understood as having at its heart a faith, not just in ourselves, but in our Almighty God, and in His truth, and in His mercy, and in His will."

"We think of ourselves, sometimes, as ordinary people. But in God's plan, there are no ordinary people. There is only this extraordinary moment when He calls and we decide whether we shall answer. In that decision lies our freedom."

"It's in the private places of the heart that freedom is made or unmade by the discipline we create there."

Alan Keyes

Known as one of the most articulate and popular speakers in America,  Dr. Alan Keyes comes to New Jersey with a wealth of experience as a former U.S. Ambassador, twice a candidate for U.S. President, columnist, talk show host, author and former college president.  Dr. James Dobson has said that Alan Keyes is the most powerful and impactful speaker that he has ever heard.

Your generous support and attendance at this fundraising event will make it possible for Life Choices to touch hundreds of lives! Families come to our Center for support and tangible assistance. The people we have served tell us again and again that in our Center they find genuine care and concern.

Precious lives have been saved! Over the last year we have seen 450 women. Many of these women described themselves as seriously considering abortion…some with appointments scheduled. In our Center they find the help they need to change their hearts. The necessities are provided. Our ultrasound program allows the unborn children to be seen. Kicking and swimming about, hearts beating, they seem to ask, “Can you love me? Will you nurture this awesome gift of life?” Again and again we have heard the answer: “YES!” Life-giving Choices are being made! With your support, we hold in our arms Children who otherwise would not have been born!

Please join Mayor Steve Lonegan for a frank discussion on property taxes

Thanks to your help, Governor McGreevey dropped a plan to raise gasoline taxes by as much as 15 cents per gallon.

Our victory showed the Trenton Establishment that average people like you and me can beat "City Hall" when we stick together and make our voices heard.

Now I'm working on another front and I'd like you to join me next Monday night, January 26th, from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Ramada Conference Center, 195 Route 18 South, in East Brunswick to announce our effort to reduce rapidly escalating property taxes in our state.

On the whole, New Jersey residents paid $17.3 Billion in property taxes last year -- a 7.6 percent increase over the $16.1 Billion paid in 2002. This represents the highest single year increase in a decade. And that's because
total spending increased by 6.5 percent.

Higher spending means higher taxes. And nothing will be done about high taxes until something is done about spending.

Some say that the only way to hold down real estate taxes is to raise other taxes such as sales and income taxes. I reject that view. The problem with taxation in our state is not that state taxes are too low, but that local
governments and school boards spend too much -- as well as our state government in Trenton.

I am proud that in my town of Bogota in Bergen County, our municipal budgets are virtually the same as the day I took over eight years ago. Unfortunately, any savings we have brought taxpayers has been eaten up by profligate spending at the Board of Education.

And while state spending has skyrocketed in those eight years from $15 Billion to nearly $24 Billion today -- a 60 percent increase -- state aid to my town has actually been reduced.

As property taxes rise, driven primarily by school costs, New Jersey residents are left asking whether we are getting what we are paying for. Trenton's monolithic "tax and spend, more money equals better everything" attitude has to stop before it bankrupts our state.

We can control taxes and school costs without diminishing the quality of education our children receive. Please join me on Monday night as we take the tax revolt to a new level. Many of you have written me to ask what else
we can do to fight high taxes in our state. This is your chance. I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

March 31, 2004

Dear Pro-Life Friends:

I was just made aware that there will be a pro-abortion rally tomorrow, April 1, 2004 at 8 pm at Rutgers University, New Brunswick campus. The pro-abortion rally will take place on the steps of Brower Commons, which is a designated "Free Speech Area" for campus rallies. A Pro-Life counter protest will take place in front of the Rutgers Student Center, which is located at 126 College Avenue, New Brunswick, directly across the street from Brower Commons. The protest will be a peaceful one.

The desire is simply to be a pro-life presence at this event. There will be people at the pro-life counter protest from a diversity of religious and political backgrounds. The goal is to make this a very mainstream pro-life counter protest, therefore people who choose to bring signs are asked to omit pictures that depict the violence and gore of abortion. The organizers ask that the signs be simple, direct, and non-inflammatory, lest their effectiveness be compromised. Click on this link for a campus map. Click on this link for directions to the Rutgers Student Center. As I mentioned, parking on campus is very limited and tightly restricted. Unless people can find a metered spot close to the Rutgers Students Center, I suggest they use a deck or lot monitored by the city of New Brunswick. The following link for the New Brunswick Parking Authority will have more detailed information about parking in the city.

Please try to attend.
