Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton has been tied up and robbed at gunpoint.
The two men searched through his California home but he wasn't harmed.
Crichton, 59, is also responsible for creating the hit TV hospital drama series ER.
"An incident did occur, but everybody is fine, and that's all I can say because a kid is involved," said publicist Joseph Marich.
Police said some items were taken from the Santa Monica house but the value was not immediately determined.
Since his 1971 novel, The Andromeda Strain, was made into a film, Crichton has enjoyed a string of literary and Hollywood successes.
More than a dozen of his novels and original screenplays have been turned into feature films, including Twister, Disclosure and West World.
The 1969 graduate of Harvard Medical School is also the creator of TV's long-running series ER.
Earlier this month, Crichton's wife filed for divorce to end their 13 year marriage.
Anne Marie Martin Crichton and her husband have lived apart since August 2001, when they moved from New York to Santa Monica.

This sort of thing could never happen in Kalifornia. After all, they have such strict gun control. Hell, I'll bet Dr. Crichton probably supports it.

Luckily, people like Mr. Crichton will now be able to sue the gun manufacturers and stop this sort of crime...

I didn't realize Crichton was so young when he wrote Andromeda Strain.

Eaters of the Dead was his best. Not they story so much as the inkline drawing illustrations. It's been downhill ever since.

What - no security system installed at his home?

As I read Timeline, (and also Airframe) all I could think was, "Crichton's angling for a movie treatment here, but at best this book will become a made-for-TV movie -- or a video game."
To: martin_fierro
Airframe was a dreadful book. I kept struggling through, waiting for it to get better, and then it was over.

Crichton's angling for a movie treatment Absolutely. It is possible to write in a style that can easily be made into a video format. Somewhere between a novel and a screenplay. Much of his writing is like that, and Stephen King's as well. It's not hard to do, but takes the opus out of the realm of literature.

no it was a ripoff of the Doomsday book.

I never read Doomsday Book, so the plot setup was novel to me. Maybe I'll pick that one up as well to compare.

If you liked timeline, I think you'll like doomsday much better. Let me know if you decide to read it.
