GOP warning: Sanchez staff should be considered armed and dangerous

9/23/2002

The Republican Party of Texas issued a tongue-in-cheek AVB (All Voters Bulletin) today warning Texans not to open the door to Sanchez campaign workers, who should be considered armed and dangerous.

According to the Brazosport Facts, a man paid by the Tony Sanchez campaign to perform door-to-door canvassing was arrested Sunday for allegedly pulling a gun on a truck driver after an argument. After the incident was reported by news organizations, a police officer informed the suspect that the Sanchez campaign had fired him.

“Texas voters should be advised not to open the door for Sanchez campaign workers,” said Republican Party of Texas Chairman Susan Weddington. “They may be packing more than palm pilots and should be considered armed and dangerous. For safety’s sake, we urge all Texans to keep a watchful eye for suspicious Sanchez campaign workers and to lock their doors should any come knocking.”

People associated with the Sanchez campaign have also verbally abused and physically assaulted GOP volunteers in recent weeks. At a Sanchez event in Austin on September 20, a Sanchez campaign staffer attempted to intimidate GOP protestors by shouting obscenities and making lewd gestures from his car.

On September 7 in Wichita Falls, a volunteer GOP cameraman was physically assaulted by a Sanchez supporter. The assailant repeatedly struck the cameraman’s arms with closed fists in an attempt to knock the camera out of his hands. A police officer intervened as the GOP volunteer fled to safety.

“Tony Sanchez says he wants to ‘crack down hard’ on criminals, and he should follow through on his promise – beginning with his own campaign workers,” said Weddington.

I don't think I'll be voting for Tony Sanchez.

New York is different, Race.
I was amazed the times I was there at the way people would shout obscenities at each other, and it never came to blows!
Normally in Texas if the obscenities start, then the fists start flying shortly after.

I did my duty. I turned a Conservative Democrat away from Ron Kirk with the race-baiting article about minorities fighting in Iraq. He's a CCWer, but he said Cornyn is a dork, and I couldn't argue with him there. So he promised to abstain from the Senate vote, which is onenet vote for the pubs!! As for governor, well, there's only that ding-dong aggie to vote for. I'll have to hold my nose and vote for a dork and an aggie. We do what we can.
