A new CNN/USA Today/Gallup survey reveals:
- By a 77% to 20% margin, Americans say Hussein will not agree to inspections meeting U.N. requirements.
- By a 68% to 27% margin, Americans say U.N. inspections would not eliminate the threat of Iraq using weapons of mass destruction against the U.S.
Americans weigh security issues heavily in deciding vote for Congress.
- Americans say possibility of war with Iraq will be more important than economic issues in deciding their votes by a 49% to 42% margin, compared to a 34% to 57% margin in early September.
- Top ten issues ranked by percentage of Americans describing them as "extremely important" in determining their votes:
| Issue |
% Extremely Important |
| Terrorism |
47% |
| Middle East |
44% |
| Iraq |
42% |
| Economic Conditions |
37% |
| Education |

| Rx Drugs for Seniors |
35% |
| Social Security |
34% |
| Corporate Corruption |
33% |
| Unemployment |
28% |
| Environment |
28% |
Seven in ten think economic conditions will be good one year from now.
- 71% say economic conditions will be good one year from now, matching June results, and 54% say economic conditions today are good, up from 51% in July.

* By a 68% to 27% margin, Americans say U.N. inspections would not eliminate the threat of Iraq using weapons of mass destruction against the U.S.Thank God there are still some Americans that understand inspections do NOT remove the threat.

We are wasting valuable time here. Why anyone is even messing around with this charade is beyond me.

We are wasting valuable time here. Why anyone is even messing around with this charade is beyond me.I don't disagree with you. However, I'm guessing that intelligence sources have given George W. and his team some "wiggle room" in an effort to show he's tried to be inclusive (the UN Security Council and all that.) Action will be taken when its required IMHO.

We are wasting valuable time here. Why anyone is even messing around with this charade is beyond me.I disagree. It's certainly a charade, but we're not ready for an invasion yet, and this is a fine way to pass the time as we move equipment and finish our base in Qatar.
It might even have the effect of getting some nations on board with the concept when Saddam stinks up the charade, as we all know he will.
