SACRAMENTO (AP) - State officials have banned inmates from receiving pornography after a growing number of female prison guards said they find the materials offensive.
Inmates are no longer allowed to receive pornographic magazines, along with photos, drawings and other depictions of nudity.

Prison isn't supposed to be comfortable or pleasant. It isn't supposed to pander to their impulses. Lack of impulse control is generally why they are in prison to begin with. Take away their porn. Take away any and all materials with any depiction of women whatsover as far as I'm concerned.
On the other hand, if they want to behave and learn to control their impulses and keep their cells clean, reward them gradually with a relaxation of restrictions on reading materials. If they wish to be treated like responsible adults, let them demonstrate they are worthy of such treatment.
Their choice.
The prisoners should have pornography if they want it. Their pleasures are few.
If women don't want to see it, and if they don't want to watch prisoners masterbate, and if they don't want to be exposed to nastey, vile, men, they should work somewhere else. What else would anyone expect in prisons anyway!?!!
Withholding pornography will not stop masterbation, and it will not turn prisoners into gentlemen.
Fire the women. Hire male prison guards.
but what about mom?
I thought that keeping their "cells" clean was the purpose. Now, if you are ambidextrous, you get twice the lovin' at no charge. If there were more MBs it would put significantly reduce the mafia since prostitution would tank significantly. I'm just trying to put another "twist" on this thing. hehehe
Oooh, I think the ones that ogle are not the free female guards. Remember who broke the laws here, and it was not the guards. The prisoners will use it (and any other act) as tool to keep from their cells being inspected as well as they should be. It will become a weapon if the PC crowd allows it. They lost their rights, and I for one do not choose to forget that tidbit.
NO
What about tHim?
What do you suppose the more accurate term was that was in the original quote?
How about "do the Clinton-in-the-sink thingy"?
Sorry to disappoint you joe, but I've worked in only all-male correctional facilities over the past 23 years. Besides, you forget about the female teachers, nurses, doctors, secretaries, food service workers, counselors, probation officers, etc., that work in prisons and have to interact with inmates.
New York State allows porn magazines. I'm a supervisor, and when I see the guys bring their magazines out to the yard, etc., I bust their chops: "Ah, heavy reading tonight eh?" Most of them say: "Oh, these aren't for me...I've brought them out for one of my friends." Yeah, right! I especially like to break 'em on the Muslim inmates who bring the mags out to the yard. Their religion prohibits them from even gazing on a female naked if she isn't his wife. So I say to them: "You know, Mohammed/Allah wouldn't like that!"
Inmates are going to masturbate whether they have magazines to look at or not. While I have no use for porn myself, I think California has gone a bit overboard. All these so-called females have to do is report the masturbation if it occurs in their presence. There are afterall, rules governing that type of stuff within the prison system. I could care less if they do it in the privacy of their cell, cube, etc., just so long as I don't have to view it. And on that subject, I can't remember the last time I had an inmate flash me. It's been at least 20 years I bet. Perhaps it's because I'm an old lady, and a supervisor to boot. They do it just to see how you're going to react anyway, and there are several different ways to deal with it. It's never been a big problem in any of the facilities I've worked in.
I don't know how it is in other states, but in New York State prisons, officers are not afforded the type of discretion you mention. It's actually a violation of the inmate's rights to arbitrarily discipline an inmate outside of the established disciplinary system in place here. We have a three-tier disciplinary system, that deals with misbehavior by inmates. The officer must document the misbehavior in writing and the report, or ticket as we call it, will be reviewed by the midnight Watch Commander and based on the severity of the offense, the charges will be placed into one of the thee tiers. Each tier is heard by a different uniformed rank in the prison and each has its own set of available dispositions that can be applied.
While as a supervisor, I have no problem with the officer shutting down the TV's because of certain misbehavior, or taking away the microwave because the inmates fail to keep it clean. However, there are other supervisors who run scared and won't allow it. As well, even if the officer attempts to do this, the inmates will immediately grieve it, or grab the first prison official walking around and cry to them. The officer will then be counseled and the inmates once again have won the day. Behavior shaping, or modification isn't used in the prison system here, although it should be.
Are you the real thang honey? And are you offering? :)
They get HBO in my prison!
