Iraq discusses practical measures for the return of the U.N inspectors
U.N, Sept. 19, INA

Head of the International Organizations and Conferences Office at Iraq’s Foreign Ministry Dr. Sa’eed Al-Musawi and Person in Charge of Iraq-UNMOVIC relation Hassan Mohammed Amin have held a meeting at the U.N headquarters to discuss the practical measures for the return of the U.N arms inspectors.

In a press interview after the meeting, Dr. Al-Musawi said the meeting discussed the practical measures of the return of the arms inspectors, describing the meeting as useful.

The meetings are due to be continued in Vienna ten days later.

For his part, Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov said the already issued S.C Resolutions are enough and there is no need for other resolutions.

On the other hand Javier Solana said the European stance supports the return of the arms inspectors to Iraq and that the U.N policy does not concern Europe.

I think the president is showing excellent manners and wisdom by dealing with the UN openly, but part of me is growing uncomfortable with premise, which everyone seems to be adhering to, that the UN must be consulted, persuaded, asked for permission, before the US attacks Iraq.

Of course, if the UN didn't go along, and we did attack (other than in plain self-defense) then the liberal twits would really be tittering and who knows what sort of 'resolutions' they'd come up with against us.

If we ignore the UN, I guess they won't go away.

I'd like to discuss such "practical measures" with them.

"The first time an Iraqi interferes with an inspector, that may be construed as an act of war, and many thousands of you may perish as a result.

If you detain an inspector, that is an act of war.

If you delay an inspector, that is an act of war.

If you mislead an inspector, that is an act of war.

If you fail to give any assistance to an inspector that you could have given, that may be taken as an act of war ... "

Guess they won't let me write the protocols.

I hear you. I'm hoping we won't get snookered into the "inspection" game again. If we insist on very draconian inspection protocols, maybe Saddam will refuse to permit the inspections, or maybe he'll renege later in a way that gives us clear casus belli. But I'm wondering whether starting down this path at all is a good idea. The President's playing a masterful game of diplomacy, but diplomacy's not always called for.

I don't think they have to. President Bush seems to have the same ideas you do.

Saddam is about to be flushed down the toilet of history. And that's one rat who won't be able to crawl back out of it.

"Iraq discusses practical measures for the return of the U.N inspectors" = Iraq sets conditional measures for the return of the U.N. inspectors. This is such a joke!
