NAPLES, Florida (CNN) --The Georgia woman who prompted Friday's terror scare was "flat-out lying" when she told authorities she overheard three Muslim men at a restaurant laughing about September 11 and making suspicious comments, one of the men said late Friday.

Here's a thought.The nurse and her son were bored with life in GA and upon being seated next to the three obviously Muslim ones decided to spice up their lives with the made up story the nurse reported.This woman was trying to be a good American at the request of our government, to keep her eyes and ears open.

If these guys were joking they should be incarcerated. Laughing at at the deaths of all those people on 9/11 and suggesting that worse is to come at their hands is an act of terror. I believe every word this woman said and I don't think they were joking.

The dogs aren't trained to sniff bombs, they are trained to sniff out materials from which bombs can be made, or to sniff out places where such materials have been. There is a huge difference.

They are not supposed to judge for themselves whether there is enough of a substance to make a bomb; they are only supposed to alert if there are or were materials in an area where the dogs are used.

"Lie detectors" are so much snake oil. A pathological liar can self-delude into calmness. At best they are a way to coax a confession. Nontheless some people believe in them with a well nigh religious faith.

What is really interesting is that Eunice overheard these chaps in English. Why would these guys plot in English? Arabic would make a lot more sense if they were serious Muslims.

At a certain point of unreliability, the "probable cause" supposedly established by the dogs could in principle face a successful challenge in court. I have heard of one case where that happened (the rate of false alerts, in which nothing was found to explain the dogs' reaction, was documented as being over 50%).

Joking about terrorism in public (as opposed to a deliberate hoax, which this may not be) is not against the law. It is in incredibly bad taste and may result in police investigation, but it is not against the law.

Chicago talk radio has been going strong on it all day from the time they found out there was Illinois plates on the car.

Apparently two of them are from chicago.

Also understand there was something wrong with the plates, but the cops said not to worry George Ryan said that ws how business was done in Illinois, a little bribe here a little bribe there.

Nothing wrong with the plates except for a foulup in the wonderfully efficient Illinois DMV when plates were LEGALLY transferred from a previously owned vehicle. Wouldn't you love to be pulled over and handcuffed by police for a gem like that?

Not a flame, but I just re-read the articles and I wasn't able to find any quote attributed to any of the men where they, themselves said they were playing a joke. The only references to the possibility of a joke or a hoax came from the woman or the authorities.

Florida Terror Arrests a "Hoax?":

"...Federal sources involved in the investigation said they believe the three men - all U.S. citizens - were playing a stupid joke on another restaurant patron who gave them a suspicious look."

And...

"...In an interview on Fox News Channel on Friday, Stone said she thought they might be playing a hoax..."

Where did any of you read that the men themselves said they were playing a joke or perpetrating a hoax?

Something else happened. would be very interested to hear from the cops exactly what they know.

Those guys were grilled by the FBI...there must be dozens of charges they could be booked on....so I guess they will be monitoring their friends and others during the next few years....
