Got a question for people that I am wrestling with. If Bob Ehrlich is pro-choice or pro-death, how can I vote for him when I am against abortion? I am not going to vote for a Kennedy but I am seriously considering not voting for anyone for Governor. I know that it may put KKT in office, but what else is there to do? I would like some advice.

I understand the principled objection to supporting someone who holds views you find abhorrent. But in a democracy you rarely find a candidate who perfectly reflects your view.
Not voting makes it more like Kennedy will win. You need to ask yourself whether you're willing to take that risk. If you wake up the day after the election, who do you want to read in the news won? Vote accordingly.

My good man, why on earth are you asking for advice on voting. The only people I know who ask for such advice are the minions of Jessee Jackson and Hillary Clinton. If freepers are one thing, it is independent cusses. Make up your own mind, that is a good thing.

If you feel strongly about your positions, pass on the governors race and vote on the other offices and propositions that may be on the ballot.
That's what I'm doing in the CA governors race. I despise davis and I am not impressed with simon as he is drowning in the sea of his own campaigning incompetence.
I know my stand has brought me many insults, but, I will no longer vote for the lesser of two evils (that's figuratively speaking).
No one will get my vote just because thay have an R after their name.

Rudy Guiliani is the antithesis of every cultural belief of the conservatives. Without him New York would have never survived PRIOR to 9/11. Four more years of David Dinkins is beyond contemplation. It's not a matter of the lesser of two evils, it a matter of survival.
When Rudy won the first time there was a conservative opponent, supported by Jack Kemp and Bill Bennet. The man garnered between 1-2% of the vote and Rudy barely won by about 1-2%.....
The rest is history and I beg you to vote for Simon for Governor.
Perfect candidates rarely if ever appear on the scene.

Freepers are wonderful, and freeperland is where common sense begins to surface -- that's FR's biggest asset -- it causes people to think.
So think about what you're doing. Principles are wonderful, but letting Clintonites get elected isn't.

but letting Clintonites get elected isn't. That is MY principle.

Rudy also voted for cuomo against Pataki. As for NY not surviving, I don't believe that for one moment. Also, what has happened to his prostrate cancer. Was that a ploy for hillary to win the election? Was a deal struck? I do not trust rudy. Don't fall for "madison ave" approach to fame.

Vote Republican.
You have to vote for the Republican so that you start the move to the conservative side. By sitting out the election or voting for a kennedy, you're letting the socialists win.
Maryland is pretty screwed up in the manner of gun control and abortion. Correcting that mess isn't going to be easy or quick.

Vote Republican.
Vote early.
Vote often.
Do not vote for Erhlich then. Vote against
a Kennedy.
I will vote against KKT.

If you don't vote for Ehrlich, you aren't voting for Ehrlich's pro-life running mate.
To: 7thson
This only one issue, you should not let that be the determining factor to not vote. I don't agree on all issues when it comes to voting, but just one is not going to stop me when the alternative is so much worse. You are never going to agree with anyone totally.

Maryland's Two U.S. Senators are aged 66 (next election 2004) and 69 (next election 2006). Who do you suppose would appoint the successor if one of these Senators were to die?

I understand your apprehensions, but face it: the matter of abortion is a done deal, at least from a governor's perspective. Whoever ends up in Annapolis will have zero effect on the volume or frequencies of abortion in MD or the US.
That said, has there ever been a candidate that stood on your principles 100%? You may not find the idea of voting for Ehrlich exciting, but how does the prospect of 4 years of KKT sound?

I'm not in favor of abortion either. That being said I will VOTE, as I cannot let ONE plank in a political platform (no matter how important,)dictate my vote. I will vote for the person who will advance the MAJORITY of my beliefs forward. That being said, that
#@!!*^+! KKT bitch won't have to worry about me connecting the arrow by her name!!!

Mine as well.
Had the Democratic Party NOT become a mafia under Clinton, then I might feel differently, but as long as it remains a mafia, then I'll take the most certain way to keep them out of office.

From a strictly selfish point of view, do whatever you have to do to defeat the Kennedy b-aitch! As a MA resident, we've been hostage to the Fatboy since the early 60's. You have him to thank for the immigration policies that have placed our country in such peril. Unfortunately, the yellow dog democrats will keep electing Fatboy after he's dead if they can only get his name on the ballot. But the Kennedy curse, the Kennedy poison, can be terminated with Teddy's generation. We've dislodged the Wizard of Uhhs, Joe, from his sinecure in politics. He decided it was easier, and less taxing mentally, to retire to the highly renumerative non-profit sector.
Please, I'm begging you, do what you can to thrust a stake in the heart of the Kennedy mistake/mystique!

Boy I felt bad when I read your post and was excited by that proposition.
I am not happy about all of Erlich's positions on gun-control and abortion, but Maryland needs this man so badly it ain't even funny. The tide in this state needs to turn and if I have to put up with a semi-RINO to do it that is okay. If he does a good job as Governor that may encourage people who have never voted for a Republican to take a second look at local elections and issues. It kinda reminds me of a thread I read on here acouple years ago about what one cheaply made handgun can do in a war. Basically it was a snowball effect. Take a guard post and steal his machine gun by killing him with a handgun. Use the machine gun to suprise a squad or tank. Etc. Etc. Elect a Republican and so on and so forth.
