LIBERTARIAN CANDIDATE SPITS IN FACE OF TALK SHOW HOST ON THE AIR
DFU listening to KABC in Los Angeles | 9-8-02 | Doug from Upland

Posted on 09/08/2002 9:22:43 PM PDT by doug from upland

The evening started innocently enough for Brian Whitman, Sunday evening talk show host on KABC in Los Angeles.

He had on his show four minor candidates running for governor of California. Three were on the phone and the fourth, Libertarian candidate Gary Copeland, was in studio.

The conversation eventually turned to illegal immigration. Copeland did not like Whitman's position and called him a racist. Although Whitman kept trying to answer, Copeland kept talking over him and would not let him speak.

Just as Whitman puts callers in "timeout" on his show when they won't let him have his say, he told the engineer to cut off Copeland's microphone. Copeland became incensed and started packing his things to leave the studio.

Then, in great FReeper tradition, Whitman told Copeland not to let the door hit his ass on the way out. He also called Copeland a lunatic.

Then the rain came. Copeland walked over to Whitman and spit in his face. Whitman couldn't believe it. Two others on the KABC staff couldn't believe it.

Whitman had the station call the police and is considering filing assault charges.

Poor Copeland. He may no longer be the Libertarian candidate for governor. An official high ranking representative of the party called in to Whitman and told him that Copeland would be receiving no more backing and they were going to see what they could do to take him off the ballot.

Now that was classic talk radio. The unbelievable happened. A candidate for governor actually showed himself to be a bigger jackass than Gray Davis. Davis has spit on the law but never on Whitman, at least not yet. Brian, get him in studio.

In the case of libertarianism, the "just" is that everybody will somehow respect the rights of others, of their own accord.

As has been pointed out, what this idiot did should be considered an assault.

What has also been pointed out, time and again, is that Libertarians feel that the ONLY function legitamate government serves is to protect equal Rights from violation. Such as the assault commited in the article.

Some of you Bushbots just can't stand the idea that the LP espouses policies that would protect more of an individuals freedom over their own lives than you would allow them to have.

This candidates behavior was reprehensible. Charge him and try him in court. Kick him off the ballot and replace him with someone who can keep his sh!t wired right.

Yeah, but can't you just feel the love? (/sarcasm)

Honestly, from some of the language on this thread, I'm suprised it hasn't gotten pulled yet. Collective emotional IQ, judging from the invictive alone, appears to be reaching a pre-pubecent stage.

As has been pointed out, what this idiot did should be considered an assault.

The problem, DC, is that the basic childishness behind Copeland's action is typical behavior for Libertarian candidates.

And as has been pointed out -- this dumbass is the LP candidate for Governor! (Here in Colorado, the LP has an even bigger idiot running for U.S. Senate....)

Some of you Bushbots just can't stand the idea that the LP espouses policies that would protect more of an individuals freedom over their own lives than you would allow them to have.

Sighs. Rolls eyes.

If I didn't know better I'd think you were a Libertarian candidate for something....

I do realize however, that libertarians believe in open borders, so illegal immigration would be a non-issue for him anyway.

I dont, at least not until we get rid of all socialistic programs in America, and stop using our military to police the world.

That's what liberals and other morons do when caught in a lie. Broad brushes work both ways.

Liar. I've worked with a couple of the LP candidates here in Austin. How about the Second Amendment stance of that guy up in Colorado? Any of Ron Pauls stances? Your argument is sinking fast. Or is advocacy of our Rights now considered childish?

Case in point: If everybody would just....

No. Gods do I get tired of trying to explain this to you guys. "If government would just..." is the point. If the government would just stay within its Constitutional boundries. How does that sound? How un-Republican is that? Everything I have heard from you 'Bots is that we need more, and more powerful, government. How much MORE freedom do we need to give up until you guys are satisfied? All of it?

Love your screen name. It fits the Libertarian Party -- dead corpse. Eight years ago I almost considered myself a Libertarian. Had I voted in the evening and knew the 1996 election was over, I would have probably voted for Harry Browne. Their stand on open borders and refusal to use military force to defend our national interest has lost me forever.

Rick Stanley has probably done more to damage RKBA than any other person in the state. The guy has demonstrated himself to be a complete and utter fool.

Any of Ron Pauls stances?

Ron Paul is a Republican.

Your argument is sinking fast. Or is advocacy of our Rights now considered childish?

When libertarians act like Copeland or Stanley, any stand they take granted the same respect as those put forth by Lyndon LaRouche. By fielding slates of fools, the LP probably does far more harm than good.

As for the rest, I simply point out that your underlying assumptions are childish.

All Republicans are just like David Duke.

When David Duke runs for Governor of California, let me know. As it is, to run as a Republican in California you must sign a spinal column waiver....

If that had been on tv, the preschoolers would have been giggling and trying it out on each other! And the teenagers would guffaw and say "Cool!"
