[history]
As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together -- and if their perches are in private clubs, they have a legal right to do so. That doesn't mean the prevailing winds of social change can't ruffle their feathers. Such is the case with the male members of the Augusta National Golf Club, which has hosted the Masters tournament since 1934.

Jeez, somebody's a tad upset that Augusta told the feminists to tee off.

Mr. Johnson and his friends are not permanently immune to changing social trends, no matter how much they pout and bluster now. Who the hell is pouting? Is the author delusional?

It would be interesting to hear how quiet they would get if Bill Clinton was a member.

"testosterone-steeped defiance..." Nice phrase- but I'll bet that there is a lot more "testosterone" in the LPGA than there is at Augusta, if you know what I mean, and I think you do!
To: Willie Green
I wonder if these people (the NCWO and the Post-Gazette) also think there should be no women's clubs or no women's schools. Do they think that no women's or men's clubs have the moral right to hold an event that might become of wide interest?

Jeez, somebody's a tad upset that Augusta told the feminists to tee off. There are times that liberal hissy-fits can be absolutely hilarious.

Now his testosterone-steeped defiance has been raised another notch..."Testosterone-steeped defiance"... that would make a great Freeper screen name.

For the life of me I don't understand why Augusta can't decide on it's own what type of club they want.

Give 'em hell, Hootie. Don't back down.
To: Paul Atreides
Ha! Augusta won't have x42 as a member, any more than the clubs in Westchester County have accepted him (which is to say, not at all). Clinton is the OJ of politics, as far as private golf clubs are concerned.
To: Sam Cree
Don't you understand? Its only "unfair" for white males to exclude certain people or have exclusive clubs. "Historical predjudice" makes it fair for all other groups to exclude.(/sarcasm)

For the life of me I don't understand why Augusta can't decide on it's own what type of club they want. Because freedom of association, according to many special interest groups, means their freedom to associate with you, even if you would prefer to not associate with them.

You're not seriously suggesting that Bill Clinton could do stuff like sexual harassment at Augusta National and have the women's groups ignore it, are ya? ;)

Because freedom of association, according to many special interest groups, means their freedom to associate with you, even if you would prefer to not associate with them. Good point. But in many cases, these special interest groups do not even want to associate with "you", just the fruits of your labor. Many of those who have challenged "gender discrimination" or "racial discrimination" by private individuals or private groups didn't do it because they wanted to associate with a bunch of "old white males", they did it out of malicious hate and because they perceived "you" getting some benefit that they couldn't.

Rumor has it that part of the LPGA phsical exam consists of the prostate tweak....but that's only a rumor.

I think men's and women's only clubs should be brought back. Part of the reason of high divorce rates is that husbands cannot get away from their wives (and vice versa) in peace for a few hours. Men need "time with the guys" and women need "outings with the girls"
The adrogynification of society is silly. Hooray for Augusta.

Thanks for the link. This got me angry:
In 1988, though, the Court decided that it would begin to make the rules. In a powerful opinion written by Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, the Court ruled that all-male clubs could no longer exclude female members, since such exclusion denied the women access to business deals with club members.
I'm not sure I even need to comment on this. "denied women access to business deals with club members"(FT says over and over while shaking his head).
